One more 2wd 98 coil spring 5.0 swap.

thanks... i bought a 98 not sure if i want to put an 06-11 front end on since i already have an 06 or go with an explorer or mountaineer front end. i know with the expolorer or mountaineer fender mods are required but wasnt sure on the 06-11 front if would work with the 98 fenders. how is the truck running?

It is running good. I changed the spark plugs and cleaned the air filter this weekend so I am looking forward to seeing how it runs tomorrow for work. I also cleaned it inside and out along with a fresh wax. I had to spray the passenger side a few weeks ago and this was the first coat of wax on those panels.

Did you have to change your transmission ? And rear end?

Yes, I used a new Z-spec T5, 5 speed trans and a 8.8 Ranger rear end with Ford Racing 3.55 gears, 31 spline Traction Lok differential, and 31 spline Moser axles. For brakes I ordered the Ford Racing 2003 Cobra rear brake kit.

I don't know much about your application, 4 cyl or 6 cyl, 2wd or 4wd, I am sure the trans will need to be changed but you could live with the rear end even if it is the smaller 7.5 version.

Your trans will need to be changed, the bellhousing is different and the ranger trans won't hold up to the power. The axle will hold under light use, but recommend an upgrade to an 8.8

I just read this museum build thread AGAIN (at least the 50th time!)as Im nearing my big day very soon.(waiting on my twisted wedge track heat heads and Explore intake to get back from the porter) ..Jeff, man... Your truck and your skill is impeccable! !!

For sure. Maybe he will update.

I have been away for a while but fell into the thread and thought I would give a quick update. The truck is still out there working every day. It now has over 538,000 miles on the same engine and rear end. The transmission was replaced at 311,000 miles. It has new colors now but is basically the exact same build.

Got damn Jeff, I was wondering if you fell off the face of the planet. Hope all is well with ya. I seen what happened to truck over on the svt page and you, glad you made it out ok!
Now back to the truck... simply amazing! When done right these trucks are just like factory built in my opinion.
Im color blind.. what color is that? Blue or purple? I've commented on your YouTube but I guess tou never get back on there?
Did you take it apart like you did originally to paint it or?
I just bought another one to build. 2000, same as my other one but his time Im going to try to mount a vortch super charger on it with the 331. It doesn't need it but its the cool factor...lol

Good to hear from you. Yes, I did kind of fall off the sites for a bit. Life got busy I guess. The color is sort of a silver/blue matte metallic. In person it looks more like the last photo. It is holding up fairly well in the Florida sun so far. I didn’t pull it completely an apart this time. It is difficult when it runs five days a week. I have 2 pair of quarter panels so I painted the extra set off the truck ahead of time. Then I prepped the cab one weekend and shot the cab and assembled it all the following weekend.

Keep me updated on the 331 SC. Like to know how that one goes for sure.

Yeah Im just going to take my time on this one. No rush. Last one turned out nice, ice cold ac, power everything. Twisted wedge heads, Anderson N412 cam, zt5.. torque Monster headers and 3 inch exhaust with an x pipe. I sold.it and its up in North or South Carolina now..
