Ok so I was looking at evilbay for 9" items and I came a across a "Ring & Pinion Mini Spool" So I started wondering about it. I looked around the forum and in the tech library looking for more info. So my questions is will this Ring & Pinion Mini Spool act kinda like a LS and let one tire spin faster then the other in a turn. I understand (I think) that a full spool acts as if it was welded. so any info would be great thanks for everybodys time.

Spool acts like its welded, directly attaches both axle shafts. Minispool just doesnt replace the entire carrier, just the spiders.

Even the ring and pinion mini, the ad states it turns the diff. into LS. the ring and pinion style is appears to be a 3 piece unit. where a standard mini is a sold piece. and my other question is how dose it drive.

Got a link to this "Ring & Pinion Mini Spool"?

I've never heard of it put that way, as Sprag-o said, a mini-spool normally replaces the spider gears (same way a lunchbox locker (Lockright, Aussie, etc) would. It does not differentiate at all whatsoever.

yeah, Mini spool is just like welding spiders... Don't know how it can act as a L/S

OK I think I may Have miss read the ad but up above is the ebay ad. But I thought I seen somthing on trucks or some show like that. The show placed what appered to be a mini that would open when you would turn allowing one wheel to spin faster then lock up again as soon you straighted out. has any body seen anything like this. it was really easy to install.

Yeah, that's just a regular mini-spool (c-clip applications are multiple pieces like that. Avoid them entirely, they're weak... you'd be better off welding it).

The one you're describing on Trucks or wherever sounds like a lunchbox locker, not a mini spool. The locker would look sortof similar, but does allow the wheel to unlock like that while turning.

The Lockright (Powertrax) or Aussie Locker are probably what you're looking for.

sweet thanks for info so a lunch box would be a better idea for a DD cause i; tired of a single tire spinning. or should I look for a LS for my DD. thanks for all the info.

lunch box is a much better idea...

You arent chirping tires, you aren't breaking axle shafts, and you will be slinging mud with 2 tires. :)

just take it easy on the gas when its raining or snowing. if your on a turn when it locks, you ass end will try to pass you before you even know whats going on.

In the snow kinda, in the rain it will take a lot of gas to break both tires lose.

I dont know where this theology comes from, or why it is promoted. I'm not trying to 'attack' you Kunar, but I just disagree with people saying that a locker/spool equals a vehicle that wants to constantly have the back axle doing crazy things.
I drove a NovaSS (4barrel +4speed) with posi in the back and the back end was only sideways when I asked it to be OR when I expected it be.
eg.ice / driving through decent size puddle and allowing the tires to *really* fill up with water
If you are a intelegent driver that learns about your vehicle as you drive it then having a locker is no big deal whatsoever. It's just another difference about the vehicle that you have to be aware of. The same way you are aware of your vehicles size EG. when you jump from your GF's car to your fullsize pickup.

Do you still pay attention when you are on the highway with cruise control? Of course, well, you SHOULD! Same idea, when driving with a locker you have to understand that both tires will spin when you hit slippery instead of just one.
You already knew that one tire might spin on this limited traction up ahead, now you know that both tires might spin. It's not a big deal.

PS: If you want to experience 'having your ass end pass you' then jump in an 18 wheeler that you assume/trust to be in running order and go down a 13% grade hill with the trailer brakes out of adjustment!! (iknowiknow, my bad, I should have put more effort in on my brake check at the top of the hill!! nothing/no-one was hurt, and I learned to appreciate doing brakechecks FOR MYSELF)
