I am looking for any info I can find.

The campground I camp has an old Yanmar 155D tractor. It has a small diesel engine with 4WD, and a 3 speed transmission/2 speed sub transmission.

I have moved more campers than I care to remember with this thing. It has been used by me for at least 10 years.

The campground is being sold. The tractor is now sitting out behind a semi shed going to hell. I didn't even know it was still around until today. I found the key in the office, cranked the motor and it fired on the first hit. I was amazed. Backed it up, flicked the switch and the mower kicked in with a squeal.

Anyway. I was told if I make the owner an offer he is going to sell it. I was thinking between $500-$1000. THe hydraulics don't raise anymore. They did the last time I used it. I am trying to get it cheap. I can use a small 4WD diesel tractor to make some money.

What's the odds of this thing being sold to me for that little. I don't know of a KBB for tractors. Am I insulting him by offering so little? If he wants anymore than that he can keep it. I am just buying it if I can work a deal.

I would wave five hundred bucks cash under his nose, the smell of cash money can be very intoxicating. If he wants more he will bargain, he knows you're serious as you arrived with cash.

It is quite a bit on the low side but, offer him $500, the worst he can say is no.

What year is the tractor?

I don't know the year. I am going to guess early 80's. It will need a bit of work, but he is selling the business after his wife and he split ways. They just bought it this spring so he is VERY upside down in his $300,000 loan. I am hoping he will just take what he can get and not try and hold out for someone who is willing to pay more.

Well I just called him and he is wanting $2800 for it. OUCH.

yanmars are a bitch to find parts for unless you find a dealer somewhere

I'm not familiar with the Yanmars, but for a compact utility tractor with 4WD and a mower in decent shape, $2800 is a steal. If you go looking for any compact utility tractor from the 80s, you're gonna spend anywhere from $4000-$8000. More for 4WD...

Yanmars are easy to find parts for...All of John deere's compact utility tractors have been yanmars since the late 70's. 155 is small...really small. Two cyl?...maybe even one?

$2800 is not too bad.

I know it is probably a good price. The problem is I don't need it. It would be cool to have as it has a granny 1st like theres no tomorrow. But I cannot justify spending such a big chunk of change on something that I will not have a solid use for, and would end up sitting in the garage.

I already have an ATV I plow with. I only wanted it because it was what I learned to drive on and it has never let anyone down.

Hope whomever gets her takes care of her.

Yanmar is a big name in powerplants for compact equipment. Thats a fair price for the machiene, but with the hydraulics not working, it can end up costing a LOT more then you bargin for.

My buddy has a Yanmar like that.

There not that great....honestly....well, his isnt anyways.

My old 78 or so Cub Cadet with a 14HP Kohler pulled it ass backwards.

No telling what my98 Cub with a 18HP Vtwin Kohler would do to it.

later,
Dustin

I've pulled 35' campers with this tractor. Put it in 4WD Low, and 1st gear it will crawl along at about 1/3 MPH and nothing can stop it.

Those creeper gears are tough to contend with, my brother's JD B has one and it can be a pain to lock horns with on the puller track. My WD-45's first is in between his second and third.

Wow, it was older than I thought. Thanks for the Link.

Hey, I just found my tractor on there. An old John Deere 950 (manufactured by Yanmar, Distributed by Deere). Says average price back then was $12,000. A new 990 is around the same price....
