Oil thread, I know it's a dead horse

i run M1 10-30 high mileage in my truck. havent had any complaints...i am sure there is no proof to support this but i swear that the truck rev'd easier when i switched that over at 150k. imat 225k now and still does great! however, i dont see any differences between it and regular synthetic. i just get the high mileage stuff just in case...ya never know

Another good one to consider is Rotella T 5w-40 synthetic. Cheaper than M1 but still a fantastic oil. Available at any WalMart for about $19/5 quart jug.

Rotella > M1
Nuff said.

WWII Germans ...oil fields lack of resources.....synthetic oil

I guess this change i'll go for Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W40, summer is coming this way, heh normal morning temps in the 80's, and highs over 100

I like my Motorcraft synthetic blend, in my F-150. It is pretty good oil that doesn't bust the bank.

When I get an engine that doesn't dribble what little that it doesn't burn in my Ranger, I will run it in that too... it gets the cheaper stuff right now.

nothing wrong with Wal-mart Supertech either, their base stock is provided by penzoil and Q-state..... their synthetic is also good....... the Dollar General oil OTOH I wouldn't put in my lawnmower.

What? Has someone been dropping the toilet lid on your head while you take a drink? :icon_twisted:

Synthetic oil is exactly that. Synthetic. Not conventional - certainly not 'more highly refined' conventional.

Not one single statement in that paragraph is true.

Thats why the oil debate keeps popping up. People talking about things they have no clue.

There is some truth to what adsm08 said. Look up the difference between Group 3 and Group 4/5/PAO-based synthetics and come back. Most off-the-shelf syns are Group 3. (Valvoline, Pennzoil, Castrol Syntec, store-brand syns, Quaker State Rotella are all Group 3.) Mobil 1 may have some oils that are group 3, or a mix of group 3 and 4, 5, etc. They refuse to divulge that info. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, mostly use PAO, ester, group 4 and 5, and are the "true" synthetics.

Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure. My mother has an oil-burner '99 Cadillac (a lot of them do that) and it uses a lot less oil with Max Life than it did with Mobil 1. Just sayin'....

+1 on the Rotella 5w-40 synthetic.

I like the Penzoil Yellow Bottle 5w30, it works.

Welp, changed the oil today to the Mobil 1 10W40. Oil sampled the oil that came out and will do it next time. Last 3 tanks of gas have been 35 mpg, so let's see if it does anything for wear oil mileage in any way.. we shall see I will post a pic of the next oil change sample that will be the mobil 1...

I dont know much about oil, but my dad and now me have been using penzoil 5w-30 every 5k or a little less since my truck was new and it runs like a champ and doesnt leak any oil or burn a significant amount either. However last oil change I used penzoil high mileage that cost a dollar more per 5 quarts than the regular and it says its the same thing except it has crap in it to help recondition your gaskets and seals to keep them from leaking. Its probably a load of crap, but for only a dollar more it cant hurt nothin.

If you want a thumbnail guide to which oils are probably group 4 look at how many Mercedes/BMW & Porsche specs they meet on the back. Group 3 meets a few but 4 has a long list .

where you are in FL you could try the rotella dino 15/40.. but maybe change at
3k instead of 4k.
i would wager that considering the price it might work out for you.

i had an '84 mercedes diesel ... used it all the time no problems even in the cold.
excellent soot control.

oh and i gotta ask... you did bring it into the toyota dealer and ask 'em if the recall applied to you right?? LOL :D

I thought of using rotella, but decided against it. Higher mileage oils usually aren't a load of crap, but there is no extreme difference either. I decided on mobil 1 because of brand reputation with the synthetics. I have been using Pennz High Mileage for over 100K now, but as I said, it's getting older, and needs some geritol.....:icon_thumby:
