Oil Filters

Engine Masters season 6, episode 5 did comparison tests on filters.

I use Motorcraft filters most of the time on vehicles I care about. I figure any issues will be worked out quick, they sell a lot of them. Usually Super Tech filters on the wife's Prius.

I have a stash of old/cheap filters for junk I don't care about. I scored a case of ancient Conoco filters at an estate sale that are the FL-1A style - they have some random rust spots so they are perfect for a 2.9 truck with 300k on it that leaks everwhere and has holes rusted through every panel. Same with the case of 25 cent Frams I got on clearance at Tractor Supply. A filter is a filter is a filter on that application.

Thank you-all for the info. The store in question has their own brand. They're not bad...no crossover chart to check which of theirs subs for all the popular brands. Need an alternate vehicle that uses Ranger filters.....if available.
Any year Taurus that uses the pushrod 3.0 (vin U)

Is there a Ford (or any) vehicle whose oil filter is interchangeable with a 2002, 3.0L, Ranger...? Store had no filter book only the digital video game look-up box. Showed all trucks, all years, no Rangers. Will anything else fit...? It's a convenient store as I live in the boonies. Thanx

According to this link: Filter for 2002 Taurus w/Vulcan V-6 | Bob Is The Oil Guy (scroll down to post #5), Ford Taurus (as noted by Holyford86) uses the same filter as your Ranger.

Just watched a Filter cut up video on youtube. He cut open 3 frams, a Mobile-1, a Super-tech, and a K&N. 2 of the Frams were Identical ( Orange can of Death, and the Silver Can ) the Ultra High Mileage Fram had thicker pleats than any other and the material was differnet. Looked more like a 'pink foam' while the others were the typical material. The K&N and the Super-Tech were identical, minus the little "nut" on the K&N. The K&N had the stiffest canister, the rest were flimsy when squeezed.
