Oil cooler and Power steering hoses

My 2000 xlt 3.0 has both a power steering cooler and an oil cooler. I want to replace the rubber hoses. I believe they are 3/8" ID for the power steering and 1/2" for the oil cooler. Is there anything special about the hoses or can I use standard heavy walled rubber hose for both applications. I generally use Gates brand hose as Gates has a good reputation. I'd appreciate any input thanks..

I posted a question before about the molded upper radiator hose not properly clearing the Alternator and have found an answer for that, It's a Gates part number 25487. 1.5" ID x 30" long Vulco-Flex II which allows me to route it around the alternator

Did you install these coolers? 3/8" ID fuel line hose OK for trans cooler but make sure it does not have too big a bend as that will stress the hose and it will wear out faster.

Not sure about the oil cooler. I have an aftermarket oil filtration system that I had custom hose and fittings made for at a hose shop. Maybe you could send some pics and better description.

Does the cooler have a thermostatic valve?

No, both coolers appear to have been factory installed. I have never seen one on a power steering unit before, but they are there. No thermostatic valve that I can see in either the engine oil cooler or the power steering cooler. I bought the truck used so it could be part of a towing package.. Well pics are better I'll include them in my next post.

I doubt it's a power steering cooler, more likely an auto transmission cooler.

Why do you think the hoses need to be replaced?
