Oh my God! I just got bad news....

I was a union employee with the State, and wouldn't have done the job if I wasn't. But our concerns centered more around officer safety and conditions, and of course, we wanted a small cost of living increase for each year.

However, there was a big plant where I grew up, and I saw it permanently shut down after it's workers went on strike for a long time. Sometimes there's a fine line between getting what you deserve, getting what you want, and cutting your own throat.

Oh so true. This guys kinda hits it right on the head. He is trying to be semi-satirical about the whole thing, but he nails it dead on.

If it were Dunkin Donuts, I may have a stroke lol. Sounds like some poor management on their end to have such a big company go out...what a shame...another american business lost

never been a fan of twinkies or any hostess baked snacks... but, are they the same company that makes chips and stuff in canada? you know the ones with the three, ugh, I guess they're animals on the bag? those are great chips.

Those, ugh, things are/were called "Munchies"...they are like gremlins but Munchies are like the good guys and not part of the dark side...but you do have to feed them very often or they can make you wake up at night and wonder around town half naked looking to satisfy your cravings...

The good news is, no, they are not the same company...but Hostess Potato Chips has all but gone the way of the John seeking a prostitute...they are now called "Lays" for the most part due to a pimp company merger...

So, if you wake up with a craving you can now go out and get "Layed" by any corner store vendor...and if you want the real thing with a Hostess...you're probably going to have to drive to Canada...and you can now get "Lucky" beer to go with them...yum!

I eat 2 or 3 bags of them a month!

Well, five years ago they had mentioned they were going to cut back on some items and maybe cut some wages. The CEO of Hostess said they might go out of business or sell out completely by 2013. I guess they were right. I don't eat anything like that anyway, but I am sorry about the loss of a of so many jobs.

One thing seems consistent to me whoever has control of a situation has there personal greed not the collective good in mind. This seems to go for unions or management.

They had problems of diet awareness as well people don't have as poor a diet as they used to.Since the 70's people made an example of what poor food these were.If you ever read one of there labels and cared at all you won't eat a lot of these products.

The people who do not care what they eat will eat the cheaper Little Debbie products.

My little brother bought the last thing of cinnamin rolls that one place had.

He ate them.

I don't really see any better awareness of what people eat...or, at least, amount they consume...we are dealing with obesity on both sides of the border where they are finally...finally, recognizing it for the real health hazard that it is...but, then again, "they" have beaten smokers into the ground and now "they" are looking for the next sacrificial lamb to slaughter...

Don't be surprised if there is soon a mandate on how much body fat you can carry without paying extra in health care costs...I don't know if Canada would be able to implement this directly since our health care is covered by the government...but you can bet "they" will do whatever can be done to tighten our belts...

I was pretty chubby when I was younger but managed to slim down through a combination of diet and exercise...and now maintain a body weight that is acceptable (to THEM)...for now...

LOL...did someone get pics???

I saw today in the Toronto Sun that Hostess name brand is owned by two different companies and they are not affected by the closing...but they don't offer Twinkies or any of the other products south of the border...we have a few that I used to eat voraciously when I was chubby...like the Half Loon Moons...and those chocolate cupcakes that I haven't seen for decades...

I'm a chip-a-holic myself...and I really have to practice every ounce of self control when I walk through the aisles of the local gross er y store...(why didn't my spell checker go crazy when I typed that????)...but I've found a few that are "acceptable" to "them" that I consume (read inhale) regularly...

Ive heard rummors of sarah lee buying hostes. dont know how accurate that info is though.

I try not to buy Sasah Lee products....they are actively anti-gun...:annoyed:

Wouldn't bother me at all!:D

So, you fall for the Obama creedo that profit=greed?:icon_confused:

I was looking forward to "retiring" when I turned 51. Now who wouldnt like that?? but now it wont happen.

I think everyone would love that, but it's not really realistic to expect. Given how long peoiple live, the retirement age should be going up, not down.

Were all saved there is a company in mexico looking to buy hostess, they should be able to produce and ship their product here cheaper than they could.
