Hey guys,
I've been looking for some step rails for my 98 Ranger extended cab and some just popped up on craigslist but I'm just not sure about compatibility of years. I tried calling the seller to see what year his truck was, but no answer. The truck is def a 2nd or 3rd gen extended cab. Does anyone know if 93-97 OEM step rails are compatible with 98 extended cab?
Here's the image from the posting if that helps:

thanks!

anyone? I was finally able to get in touch with the seller, they're currently on an 04 FWIW

While on lunch I dug around and here's what I found in case someone else runs in to this.
First, the length needs to be correct. Meaning, there are different rails for standard cab and extended cab.
Next, the rails and front brackets are the same. The rear brackets are different depending if you have the 2 door or 4 door cab.

Here's a picture of the 2 door rear brackets (the bracket on the right). Notice they're a 2 piece design.

The 2nd picture is a passenger side bracket. The Y shaped bracket bolts to the rear or the cab by the bed and to a pinch weld under the cab. It seems common that people leave the 2nd bracket on the truck, not realizing it goes with the step rails. So if you're looking for step rails make sure you get both pieces.

Here's a picture of the 4 door rear brackets.

These are a 1 piece design. You'll notice it bolts to a pinch weld under the cab and part of the bracket points to the front of the truck. This part of the brackets mounts to the cab, which is a little different from the 2 door cab. It's hard to explain so here's another picture that might help

Here's a full thread with some good info:

There's also a hand full of nuts and bolts and these horseshoe bolts that are under the cab, inside one of the core supports (that run left to right)

Seems like this are often forgotten about.

Back to my situation, from what I can tell from the pics the seller sent me, his truck is also a 2 door extended cab, as is mine, so they *should* work.
I'm trying to meet the guy to take a look.

If you can, look up the installation instructions on the interwebz, then look under your rig to see if the install points are the same.
I put steps on my 00 supercab without drilling a hole.
