So the wife and I bought a house in the very outskirts of Columbus. We are technically in Columbus, but have a "Canal Winchester" city name. We've been here since married, just about 1.5 years now.

We never hear any sirens around here because there is only one way in and out, and unless someone back here calls, we don't hear them go past on the main drag.

Anyway, last night I heard sirens, even commented to the wife about how we never hear them around here.

So my wife's friend sends her a message on facebook about how there was a murder in our neighborhood last night!

Some dude was shot in his garage and died!

WTF

So now I am pissed and living on the edge. I think it was drug related since the left the girlfriend alone, and didn't rob or steal, but it was the next street over. How can I not be a little uneasy.

No way I can sell the house and move... What shall I do?
:annoyed:

the law of averages suggests that if a murder just occured, it'll probably be a long time before it happens again. Maybe the only drug dealer in your neighborhood just got killed?

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just keep your doors locked and your eyes open.

Buy a gun, and some ammo... get a good deadbolt and wait.

any chance that this was a domestic dispute and the woman made up the other two guys to cover up the fact that she was the shooter?

At this point there is a lot of gaps in the news reports, chances our, we will never know because it is old news now so the media could care less.

Anythings possible at this point.

Hey even the best of neighborhoods can have a meth house in it. It happend in my neighborhood when renters set up in a $300,000 dollar house that forclosed and the credit union was not paying attention. They had to tear the house out and down. I say keep your Smith and Weson close.

People die around here all the time......... natural causes, they joined the circus (dissapearences), overdose (they were overdosed). It's a joke. Stupid Meth!!!

A bomb went off 2 houses down from me a month or so ago....... the road was shut down, the police and fire-department came (my brother is on fire-dept) he goes yeah, we just kinda looked at the bomb pieces and burnt lawn, it was 2 gay guys house and nobody saw anything so we filled out the paperwork and left.

I'm not so impressed with my quiet town anymore.......

I'm no vigilante....... but I am vigilant at protecting me and mine.

Interesting how they just walked into the house and shot him but left her alone. I'd be a bit suspicious about that.

If I were you, i'd go buy me a good home defense gun. Something that will do damage but won't go through every wall in the house.

Recommendations?

Recommendations?

Remington 870, 18.5" barrel... one of the most recommended HD guns ever...

Otherwise a good Glock will also work...

Whichever you choose, be sure to have some sort of light mounted on it...

My brother carries a 32 loaded with wad cutters (bullets are only produced twice a year in non-target form) they don't pack too much punch in the wad cutter (but I'd say enough), I like a 380............. a 380. hollow point wont travel too far, and will pack enough punch to stop a geeker. (a .380 is just a hair bellow a 9mm)

Any hollow point is more likely to hit a wall and lose a lot of impact. (meaning your neighbors live) never buy a FMJ full metal jacket, they go and go.

A 22 wont stop a geeker, a 25 wont stop a kitten.

a 38spc may as well be a 44mag they have a ton of powder.... and velocity.

i've got a 9mm Springfield XD on my nightstand, loaded with 16 rounds of JHP. So far I've only had to use it in the sense that my wife heard a noise and I had to clear the house at 2:30AM. Turned out to be a mouse escaping from a glue trap, so I got the real spring traps the next day and caught it the next night.

A shotgun is always a good choice too. Very destructive to human tissue at close range but the small pellets don't usually carry enough momentum to penetrate walls.

Just avoid round nose FMJ's and rifles of any kind.

I have a 12 gauge that I use for home protection/trap shoots. My buddy has 410's for protection. He also has a .22 on his side all the time. He used to carry a .38 until more and more people started moving in. The houses are really close together (lots of kids, too) so he downsized to the .22.

12ga mossberg with a 18in rifled slug barrel with scope next to the bed dont have to worry bout the stuff yall do just maybe some country boy bored and tryin to do some B&E. or if iwant to get crazy with it i got a 26in barrel with a moded choke and double aught rock salt rounds

big country im guessin you and i would get along just fine. that said i agree with you. shotgun all the way man. i keep my mossberg model 500 12 gauge loaded to the hilt, no plug so im packin 5 triple b rounds in reserve and 1 in the chamber. you can come in in one piece but youre leavin in 20. plus with a shotgun if you get woke up theres no lining up sights half asleep. just point in the general direction, breathe, squeeze and watch em drop. my dad always used to say if someone comes in, theyll be dead before they hit the ground
