Where do you live...Hit me up with a PM, we will have to get together.

Having to use your gun for self defense is about the same odds as hitting the power ball..

That would be nice. My dad has used his pump action 12 gauge twice in the past couple of years to "deture" methheads off his property. My parents live in a nice neighborhood but apparently the local methheads like to cut through their neighborhood to get to the shaddy side of town, and steal stuff along the way. One time around 1:00pm my father was in bed (he worked 3rd shift) and the door bell rang three or four times quickly in a row. My mom answered the door and some dude asked if Jim was there. She said there was no Jim there. The guy said OK and stepped off the porch and she closed the door. The next thing she knew the dude was kicking the front door. She ran to get my dad, he pulled a couple of shells out of the closet and grabbed his 12 gauge out of the gun case in the hallway as he walked to the front window, opened it and said "Can I help you" as he chambered a round. Needless to say that guy booked it out of there. Another time they heard a noise coming from the garage (about 30' from thier bedroom window). Dad got the gun, walked outside and saw the door was open to the garage (which is NEVER is at night) and he saw light from a flashlight moving around inside. He stepped back inside and got the garage door opener. He opened both garage doors and at the same time yelled you had better go out the big doors you SOB's 'cause if you come out this small door your leaving in a bag. Needless to say they also ran (out the big doors of course).

So morals of the story are...
1) don't f**k with my dads stuff while he is home
2) you might not have to USE the gun but having one more often than not will be enough to deture a situation.

Deture?

Might want to check spelling on that.... lol.

And you said yourself that he never actually had to use the gun, I think what mentalbreakdown00 was getting at is that it's pretty rare that you will actually have to take a shot at someone. The odds are slightly better that sometime you might have to display the weapon to discourage bad behavior and not have to discharge it.

either having to pull your gun or fire it is an extremely rare occasion. I think last time I looked at a study it is about the same as getting hit by lightening or hitting the lotto... just pray your number isn't pulled is all
