Now this from Ford....OMG

"and new global small cars like the Fiesta and Focus could very well effectively replace Ranger in the North American market"

What a bunch of crap... a car could never replace a pickup...

Who ever wrote that article is an idiot. Why would you replace a truck with a car?! Throw that Ecoboost motor in the Ranger. That would be cool.

Same as I said in the "Bad news no new Ranger" thread, 02Ranger.

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/01/ford-f150-is-likely-ranger-replacement.html

Maybe I might go to an F-150 but it had better be pretty damn fuel-efficient to be an effective Ranger replacement.

Ford's 3.7 and 3.5 EB, not to mention the Connect, are going to have their work cut out trying to lure in Ranger buyers. The F-150 is going to be less maneuverable and almost certainly less fuel efficient. The Connect lacks the cargo area. Focus lacks cargo and capability.

I was looking forward to buying a truck in 2011 but I think I'll end up waiting till I get out of grad school. That sucks, I've been itching to get rid of my Mercury Mystique since I was forced into it back in 2004 and my family refuses to let me ditch it because it's reliable and cheap to run.

if i hadn't gotten such a good deal on my F-150 I'd have a Ranger instead. Besides just the gas mileage, the F-150 is a bitch to park.

It's likely that 90% of Ranger owners don't use the bed for anything and will dump the trucks for a car that gets twice the mileage. And it's also likely that an F150 gets close enough mileage to a Ranger that people that actually need a truck bed will just buy an F150 instead. The F150 is the best selling truck for 33 years, not the Ranger. If I were Ford and had to pick a truck to keep, I'm going to try to move the Ranger people into F150s and the truck-fad Ranger owners into a Focus.

i read somewhere that chevy is highly considering bringing that holden ute thing over to the states and re badging it as a new el camino... itd be cool to see another ranchero. that would be a good compromise between a ranger and a focus unless you need 4 wheel drive, but thats just my opinion

I'd be head over heals for the holden line to be over here.....but If I was to go buy another ford it'd have to be a fullsize. The lack of room in the ranger and similiar or better mileage of the F150 really turns me off of buying a new ranger.

As it is, the most efficient 2010 Ranger is the base rear-wheel drive 2.3-liter four-cylinder model with a five-speed manual transmission, and it only achieves 22 miles-per-gallon city and 27 highway. When you look at that model with an automatic though, it nets 19/24. That's not all that much better than the much more capable F-150 with the three-valve 4.6-liter V8 and six-speed automatic, which gets 15/21.

Note that they are comparing a four cylinder Ranger with a V-8 F-150. #'s are pretty close for the great differences in truck.

This is pretty much what I came up with 4.5 years ago, a V-6 4x4 Ranger doesn't get much better milage than a V-8 4x4 F-150. Sure they get a little better, but the F-150 is ALOT more truck.

My F-150 is a little tougher to park, but I park in the boonies to avoid door dinks anyway so it doesn't really matter. Instead of only hauling a lawn mower or a couple dirtbikes I can haul my tractor around... and I can put down 18mpg pretty easily (unloaded of course) Loaded is closer to 10mpg, but that is with a 5k tractor on a flatbed trailer. And I can squeeze more than two real people in the extended cab.

My Ranger is a fun toy... but it is fullsize for me from here on out.

you could always buy a Mahindra. Seriously ...... Ford want to ignore this segment of the market so let them. From what i have seen recently from Ford ....... they deserve to fail.

F-150s exist solely to provide an SUV platform and upgraded powertrain components for the RBV. I just looked at a new 2010 Ranger 4wd and it was priced way out of the market (26,XXX)...... on purpose just so I would look at an F-150..... nope ..... sorry Ford...... after you drop the Ranger you will no longer offer anything I want except the Mustang and the F-350 Crew cab fatback...... you will never get me into a new F150 or a Fiesta or a Focus....... the F150 is too tall for me to get my gear into with out crawling into it and a Fiesta or Focus is not going to go where I want to go.

When I need to replace my full size pick up I will buy a 1 ton..... if I want a car I will get a mustang. i guess for what I am looking for I will need to look at Toyota and Mahindra...... possibly Jeep....... and I detest Jeeps..........

haha my 87 ranger uses less fuel per year and relases less co2 per year that a 08 f150 according to that calculator thing posted above

i woulnt know what to do if they got rid of the rangers , i have had an F-150 , driven an F-250 , hell , i have driven everything from Rangers , to F-150's , Chevy 2500HD ex cab long boxes , and older F-Super Duty Bucket Trucks , and out of all them i will only own a ranger , it is what i am comfortable in , if Ford drops the ranger , well then they lose me and alot of other people as a customer , and for me to say i am comfortable in a small truck is saying something , I am 5'11" and 275#'s

The F-150 has to drop in price if we have no small pickup truck to buy. Otherwise people like me that need a truck but cannot afford a full size take full advantage of the Ranger. Not to mention EVERY parts distributor here in SE Michigan USES a Ford Ranger to drop off parts? Hmm, weird but true. I say keep the ranger, maybe as a special order item only? Not to load up dealership lots, but as a opportunity for the people who love small trucks to have it. Hell, maybe even offer it in a SVT or GT for kicks:)

Derrick Kuzak and the rest of the Ford bean counters have their head up their ass. To eliminate the Ranger would be a huge mistake. If they would offer the 4 cyl. Ecoboost and a turbo diesel engine they would surpass Toyota in sales. I had it narrowed down to a Nissan Frontier or a Ranger, but now I'm leaning toward the Frontier. I hope Ford gets caught with their pants down again when gas goes up to $4 a gallon and their dealers are sitting on all those F-150's. Why not give the people what they want? These executives have more degrees then a thermometer and there dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to making the best decisions for the company. :bsflag:
