I'm sorry if you are reading this. Just a quick rant as I did not see a spot for "general rants"
I don't understand why I have a manual transmission and NO TACHOMETER!!! Every vehicle needs a tach, here I am driving a manual and no tach. I have 4 vehicles,3 are automatic and all 3 have a tach!!!!
That is all. Carry on my good men.

I hear you. My choptop (manual) and my blue 00 Ranger (also manual) along with my F-150 (manual) all had no tach from the factory. All of the automatic Rangers, Bronco II s and Explorers that Both myself and my parents have bought all came with a factory tach. What genus thought that was a good idea, well, I might want to break their leg or something. Tach is near useless in these autos but it can be helpful in a manual. Been my rant for a long time

Had no Tac in my 92 f150. It was a bare bone 4.9, 5spd, single cab, short bed, no a/c. The only factory option was a radio and a second gas tank.

Although a tac is nice for certain instances, auto or manual. Mostly towing I think. It’s not needed.

so if you are going for a bare bones vehicle why increase the price with unnecessary sensors are gauges? I would take a second gas tank 10/10 times over a tac.

My F-150 is an XL, so pretty basic other than AC and second tank. My 350 is also an XL, no AC but a second tank. The 350 has a tach. Both are manual

My 1983 Dodge Aries wagon was a manual and didn't have a tach either. I find it funny that my last three trucks with automatics had them.

Mustang II's were the first Mustangs with standard tachs. Most 60's performance cars either didn't have a tach or it was an option. When guys started putting tachs in early GTOs they found out their "high performance" engine was running out of breath at 4800. For years most cars had a speedo and a gas gauge with idiot lights for everything else, I much prefer to have gauges for oil and temp as well as a tach.

This has a few reasons....ranging from the autos had lock up converters....even the c5....and it makes for easy troubleshooting.....and idiots will pull the selector to 2 and drive on the freeway till it explodes.

Yeah. Even in the 80s....people were stupid.

I agree manual and tach should have been a package deal

But in fairness I don't think I have used a tach for shifting since I learned to drive a stick 50 years ago, lol
If I need more power I shift down, if I want to just cruise I shift up, the rest is just the feel of RPMs

I don't NEED it per say..I just think the more I can see going on with my vehicle the better off I am. I don't even like idiot lights. I would rather have a guage/meter for everything. Lol. I watch the tach in my autos every time I start it as well as when I am driving. The more I know come diagnosis time(when problems arise) the easier it is to pinpoint and fix. Does that make sense?

Yes, more information is WAY BETTER than less................well if its "accurate" information, lol

I’ve driven vehicles with and without. Having a tach is my preference for sure. Like mentioned above, I’d rather have gauges for all the common stuff instead of idiot lights.

By the time the light comes on, it’s too late but they were made necessary by people who couldn't figure out how to read a gauge or just plain ignored them until some expensive happened.

I drove alot of ford's over the decades, and most manual transmissions had no tachs..same with some with automatics. The manuals I have driven that have a tach in it, I prefer to have a tach in a manual or automatic.

Have heard of mishaps on the assembly line. Here is one, when I purchased my 94 3.0 5spd ranger new, it has a tach..it has a tach for a 4.0. Ford's 94 3.0 is 5500 redline and thier4.0 is 5000 redline. I have left in there, and at 613,000 miles..I have gotten used to it.

I think they solved that by not marking the red line anymore. I don’t remember there being one on either my 2011 or 2019 tach. I need to get around to fixing that some time...

Tachs were an ala carte option years ago. Most didn’t have the sense to check the box when ordering back in the day.
