Picked up a 4.0, trans and wiring harness from a 2000 2wd. I'll need alot of pointers for the swap but want to start with what should I check or change with the motor out? Water pump most likely, pulling the pan and valve covers for inspection, but what else?
Intake man, motor mounts, clean all the sensors, dialectic grease on all electrical connections, trans fluid and filter, spark plugs, do a full tune up on it while it's out. How many miles on the motor? You should do a little port and polish work on the intake and stuff.
Pull the heads and check for cracks. Get a complete gasket kit and replace as many as possible. Especially the timing cover gasket behind the water pump. Those are known leakers that get mistaken for bad head gaskets. If you know how to read and have access to a torque wrench it is easy stuff. There are some really good write ups on here about the swap easy stuff.
Does anyone know of any shops that have a dyno in nor cal? I just did some fun stuff to my powerstroke and would like to know what kind of power I'm pushing now
Sold the fenders for half of what it's gonna take to do the steering! Getting closer! Gonna try to get to ruff stuff today before they close and get my steering kit.
Got the steering kit. If the guy doesn't flake tomorrow I'll have the 60 swap kit too. Gonna try to get the kit installed in the next few weeks! Siiiiiiiiiixty!
