no spark at coil

No spark, I'm assuming it will crank but not start.

Try this:

Open the hood and find the plastic cover just behind the battery. Set the key to run, take the truck out of gear and block the wheels. Then find a nice hefty screwdriver and hit it across the big posts of the starter relay. If the engine catches at that point I have a pretty good idea where to start looking.

still nothing. Im wondering what that little black box is next to the starter ssolenoid. its got a white button on top and 2 wires leading to it. any ideas. does this have anything to do with the eec port?

its the inertia switch, it shuts off the fuel pump when u hit something or flip the truck

Little black wire going to the neg terminal hooked up?

Doesn't sound like the right spot for the inertia switch.

Get us some pics.

my inertia switch was removed by prior owner. I thought this box might be a relay, should i take some pics to show what im looking at. Im so tempted to find another truck for parts that wasnt tampered with. this truck has seen a body lift and many motor swaps by prior owner lol.

well I didnt need to take a pic of that box with the button on top of it. I removed it from the fender well and cleaned it off. turns out that the prior owner relocated the inertia switch. I bypassed it and the truck still wont fire. I also crossed the termanals on the soilanoid with truck in neutral and nothing. Im gonna get my hands on an ECM to see if its not fried. hope this gets the issue fixed.

Good luck man, it sounds like your having a time with it. Why relocate the inertia switch? It's there for a reason lol

not the ecu/ecm. still no spark. what sends the info to the coil to spark? I mean is it the ignition control module? is it the pick up coil in the distributer? I mean I remove the plug in the spout and I get spark but it wont kick. So maybe my distributer is ****ed. Its getting to the point where im gonna burn it. Im drawing at straws. It sucks not having a mechanic working on it. Money is tight to bring it to a mechanic. haha

What were the results of this test?

nothing. didnt start. I had to use cables cause the termanals on my relay are on opposite sides. all the it would do is drag real bad and try to weld the cables to the posts. I now have a new ECM in the truck and still no change.

You either have a wiring issue, or one of the parts you replaced was bad out of the box.

I could probably get this thing figured out in an hour, tops, if I had the truck in front of me. Being restricted to interweb diagnostics, my hands are fairly tied.

On EEC4 the ECU/PCM cannot cause a "no spark" condition, because the only control the PCM has over the ignition system is to vary the spark advance/retard.

and yanking the "spout connector" disables that capability

So restrict yourself to the obvious.

Coil, condenser, pickup (inside the distributor) and most likely? The TFI module that's
screwed to the distributor.

TFI's are likely THE most failure prone component of the ignition system on a 2.9 engine.

I had a look at the wiring and it was still factory sealed, no breaks or freys(tested voltage and resistance). So the coil is new and tests in the normal according to the haynes mannual. ive changed the TFI off a working distributer. So the next step is to change the pickup coil. or whole distributer would be just as easy. I will let you know how I make out. Thank you again for all of your help!
