Newbie needing new engine help

Hi guys.

I am posting on behalf of a female friend who purchased a 2003 2.5 td ford ranger with117k miles on the clock.

I inspected the cat checked everything of my lift and the only fault was a leaky diff. No issue really.

Anyway she picked the car up on sunday and 20 mins down the road she had broken down.

Failed big end.

So now she needs a new engine. Normaly I would fix this however not knowing the cars history I dont want to attempt a job that is frugal.

Now the engine is a 2.5td the model is a xlt? She says.

Can I dump any ford ranger 2.5td wlt into it or do I need a specific engine for the xlt model?

I know jack about rangers so need your help.

Anyway want any advice regarding honda s2000 let me know!
