Hey guys.
I am doing some research and I have a dumb question...do the Dana 35 IFS and Dana 35 TTB have the same driveshaft "connection"...could one swap a driveshaft from a 96 Ranger to a 98 Ranger and vice versa? Different lengths? Different connectors (yoke, or what not, I am not sure how that all works, I am an axle newb)
 
The driveshafts are different, both in length and on the Tcase side, different mounting flanges...

Hmm. So when people swap in 4406's from 97-03 F-150's and use the 4.6 4x4 front driveshaft...that won't work for 93-97 Rangers?
 
I think if you also bring the T-case in from the donor, it might work.

The pinion yoke is the same, as is the axle's distance from the t-case (where it mounts to the trans). the big difference is one axle is HP, the other LP, which (together with the greater amount of movement of the TTB diff) I'm not sure if that would cause an issue with the limited range of slip motion on the CV at the t-case end.

You converting over to a fulltime Explorer case or something?

Well trying to...so far it has been a lot of question asking and not much action haha. I was browsing around for transfer case options but for 93-97's there doesn't seem to be any "bolt in" options for a 2wd-4hi-4lo transfer case. Guess I'll stick with the AWD and unlock my hubs...this thread has gone off track!

But that is good to know about the differences between the two, makes sense now that I think about it. I just never have crawled under and seen the differences myself. Thanks all for the knowledge

P.s. Don't doubt me SVT, one day I will have a V8 in my ranger :D ...hopefully
 
I don't think the AWD case will work with unlocked hubs... I'd keep the hubs locked and run the AWD until you can find an F-150 case for it. Only thing is you'll need to make sure your front suspension ride height is such so that your center axle u-joint doesn't have any angle on it when sitting level, otherwise you might feel a bit of a vibration effect from it when you're cruising on the highway.
 
You can run the awd case with the hubs unlocked. I ran it like this for a few months. Only down side is, is you need to use your E brake if parking on an incline...

I would've thought it would damage the lockup clutch or whatever F/R torque-biasing system is in there after awhile (or it's internal diff causing just the front output to spin). :dunno:

Either way then I guess... I'd run it AWD myself just for it's handling & traction benefits.
 
Yeah I will probably unlock it sometimes, less stuff spinning all the time. I guess I will have to reattach my E-brake now haha
