New to rangers...

The 4.0 has a different block than a 2.9, it is basically a bored and stroked 2.9.

TTB 4.0 trucks ran from 90-97.

SOHC 4.0's in my experiance are quite a bit spunkier and get much better milage. They do suffer from timing chain problems.

Rangers with the suicide 4 door cabs started back in the late 90's I want to say. If you can find yourself a nice FXII you can probably find a rather new ranger with 4x4, 5 speed, and a 1354M (manual T-Case).

Gen 2 Rangers, Bronco IIs, and Gen 1 Explorers are still the best looking though. :D

Is it a horrible idea to think about the sporttrac as a possibility to choose for these uses.... I'm thinking like a 33-35" tire and a sas

Are there
manual trans in some sport trAc's

I ran 32s under my Sport Trac. A lot of people bob the bed on a Ranger, so a Sport Trac has about the same bed size. You can just carry 4 passengers more comfortably. A lot of them came with a hard tonneu cover which was lockable.

You could store more expensive gear in the bed, lock the cover then stack gear on the cover and use the six bedside anchors to strap it down. Also has luggage rails to attach a rack or basket to.

Mine had factory suspension with the 32s. A small 4inch suspension lift and you could fit 33s no problem. Mine also got about 28mpg hwy and 21mpg city.

I think they only came with electronic tcase though.

I've been looking and I haven't seen any sport tracs with a standard trans...... Just wondering if they are around? If not... How are the autos for strength (think I know the answer);)
