You can save about $1 by shopping for the genuine mag light LED replacement
at WalMart or Lowes.
The 3 LED conversion for the mini-mag is made by "NiteEyez"
The little button on the tailcap is actually a PITA, because the
conversion doesn't eliminate the twist-on, twist-off.
NiteEyes also makes a BETTER tail cap conversion that has what they call a "smart switch" so it has "hi, Lo and off" positions that comes with a higher powered
single LED, but that conversion costs around $20 and a new 2cell minimage LED light is only a couple bucks more.
I have two of those maglite conversion bulbs for the big lights,
one in a three D-cell light and another in a 2 C-cell light.
The C-cells used to be very short lived, but now they last
several times longer than the D-cells do with a halogen bulb.
it's $20 for the bulb, it's around $30 for a new lamp that already
comes with the LED in it.
It isn't that the LED is that much brighter than the "upgrade" bulbs,
it isn't, atleast not by much though they are brighter than the original
"stock" bulbs. and much of the improvement is because it's pulling less
current off of the batteries, so.... with less voltage drop....
The big difference is the increase in battery life.
With D-cells at over $1 each in 8-packs at the usual discount stores
if you use your light much it doesn't take all that long for the $20 bulb
(or a complete $32 light) to pay for itself.
