New purchase, overall status, anything missing?


I don’t think thats a freeze plug hole, judging by the images in that video.

There are often extra holes and extra threaded holes in castings like that. Could be mounting points for optional equipment or for using that engine in other vehicles, earlier versions, etc. If it’s not leaking something from the hole, it’s not likely a problem.

All right that makes me feel a little better haha. Yeah there's no old stains from constant leaks of any sort at those holes, so i guess it could just be unused points. Still scary that they're wide open though.
 
Ok moving on..
There are two belts installed, so presumably missing just one. I have to replace these anyways, since one started squealing yesterday suddenly.
I think the missing one relates to the A/C. What else though?
I'd not be asking these questions if i had my Haynes manual in hand, which arrives in a few days.

Missing belt will go to the items with empty pulley grooves that line up with each other. Your picture is zoomed in a little too close to really tell for sure. Many times, there is a belt diagram sticker on the radiator core support or inside the hood.
 
Thats the A/C compressor

Great. And the wheel below appears to just be a flywheel so i think the A/C is the only component inactive.
I guess can live without A/C until the next season, but on the other hand i don't like the idea of parts not being in motion for many months, for fear they will seize up in some manner internally.

Again, i'm only asking since i don't have the Haynes, but how burly of a job is it to replace all belts? A DIY afternoon job, or something better left for the shop? I can pick up all three new belts down the street. I can see it turning into a nightmare with tensioning it afterwards if there's no handy tensioner "system" and i need to clamp down multiple things at once to accomplish the feat for each belt.
And do i need to remove stuff like the fan shrowd just to have good access?
 
I would expect to spend about an hour replacing those belts. Less for some of us. Maybe a little more for someone who has never opened the hood of a car. The belts can be worked over the fan - just a few blades at a time. Shroud stays in place.

just take your time with it.
 
Key off, Spin the AC pulley, should spin easily because the clutch is disengaged, if not then clutch is bad and that's why the belt was removed
