New Ohio laws

and first of July they are raising speed limit for semi trucks from 55mph to 65 mph on the interstates here in Ohio.

What the heck is this all about, you mean to tell me prior to today if I were to drive my rig to Ohio I had to drive 55 on the interstate throughout the whole state???? Man, im lucky ive never had to deliver anything to Ohio b4

I am not sure why people in Ohio drive so slow,
Because the Ohio state police have been radar Nazis for 30+ years now. Enough microwaves flying around out there to make your hair fall out. Most everyone is afraid to go more than 3-over and stay in the left lane and don't move over for anyone.

yet Michigan people drive like they're life depends on getting somewhere as fast as possible.
That's because they're either leaving the state or, if they're staying, running from the cops. :icon_twisted:

And what in the hell is the deal with the front license plates? :D Easier for cops to spot and pull over an out-of-stater?
I've been told that it's to save time for the people who write parking tickets.

The whole speeding thing, i get passed almost daily on my way to work, no matter if its the interstate or just the regular road. I had rode in a truck with a guy from michigan down here where i live, and i thought i was going to die, he was doing like 70+ everywhere we went. he said it was jus how he drove back home, and that michigan wasnt as hilly as ohio or somethin, and i said well the speedlimit is 55mph, so i would suggest you slow down to that or go a little slower and DO NOT take the corners past 55mph or we are going to go flying off the rode.

ohio drivers = worst in the country because of this!

On the back of our inspection stickers here in Jersey it states "Wipers on, Lights on." It is constantly staring you in the face. Pretty much common sense anyway though.

In some provinces in Canada if your not wearing your seat belt, they void your insurance policy. So if you die because of not wearing seatbelt, your SOL, and so is everybody else. I know some insurance companies in Alberta have this policy. In Saskatchewan you wear your seatbelt for safety, and the roads are so brutal you need it to stay in the seat sometimes.

Hey that's a low blow......
....but 99% true....
Over a year ago I told people who own franchises in my company in Michigan that they were where Pittsburgh was in 1981, that it won't get better, and to sell everything and leave. I've been where there are. No one listened.

JohnnyO endorses this policy, but only for the person not wearing their seat belt.

Ok I wear my belts 80% of the time when I'm driving my trucks. But almost never wear the seat belt when I'm in the conv. the reason for this the fact that the conv. I drive are old enough that the A-post most likey will not with stand the weight of the car. So I would rather take my chances of the car landing on me as it rolls over. Over the chance of me head being ground down to my shoulders. Most trauma hosp. will be able to repair a bleed and trauma if help arrives soon enough, No hospital will be able to rebuild the top half of your head.

I never really paid attention to these things until a few years ago when I was in Arizona in '05. The way people drive there really stood out to me. The whole state is much more mellow, and so are the drivers. From what I observed, hardly anyone would speed recklessly, and damn near everyone there seems to know what a turn signal is for. What a shock! Ever since then, I pay more attention to the way people drive in different states. Of all the states I've been to, the Mitten is by far the worst. We also have the worlds worst roads. Funny, when I'm on I-75 headed toward Ohio, the pavement is absolutely awful, but the second you pass under the "Welcome To Ohio" sign, it becomes immaculately smooth. There's a few different reasons for this, but it all boils down to Michigan having it's proverbial head up it's own ass.

Speaking of Arizona, I spent two weeks there on my last trip down. It seemed like the only domestic car around was my rental Impala. The majority of the pickups I saw were Toyota and Nissan. Someone who's never been to Michigan would probably be shocked at just how many F-Series and Ranger trucks there are around here. They definitely dominate Michigan, hence the "Ford Country" comment.

As far as the few people who've tried to justify not wearing a set belt go, it just sounds like excuses to me......

Those laws actually aren't as bad as I was prepared for them to be.

I especially like the first one, although it's a damn shame that it even need to be a law for people to do it. It's like the seat belt law. Too many idiots are "too cool for seatbelts" and will only wear it because it's the law - not because it will save their life. It drives me absolutely crazy when there's a thunderstorm or a blizzard or heavy fog and there are losers driving around with no lights on. The last thing these people are concerned about is their own safety or the safety of anyone else. As if since the clock doesn't read midnight there's no reason to turn their lights on, regardless of what the conditions are at noon. That's why so many cars have running lights now - too many morons can't think for themselves and need babysitters. Okay, I'm done ranting....

The second one is good because you always hear about people on the side of the road getting mowed down, whether it's cops or a dude trying to change a tire.

The third one is good because it should help the flow of traffic.

Thanks for posting this. I'm in and out of Ohio on a regular basis so this stuff is good to know....
I agree that you should move over to the other lane when going past ANY vehicle on the side of the road, IF it is safe to do so, or at LEAST slow down.

New law in Wisconsin. You can be stopped for not wearing your seat belt. It used to be that there had to be another traffic law violation for the cops to stop you. I always wear mine anyway. I don't want to kiss the windshield if at all possible.:black_eye:

I see the same thing when I travel through VA, NC, and SC. Vast majority of cars are Hondas and Toyotas.
I live in what was formerly a Big Steel area, my county did not even have an imported car dealership from 1980 to about 1998 when a Chevy dealer added Hyundai.

I have no idea what to say to that....
First, I'm sorry you lost several friends. I'll understand if you don't want to discuss it, but I'm curious as to how you know for a fact that a seat belt is directly responsible for a death, and how you know they would have been guaranteed to otherwise survive had they not been wearing it.

well my best is example would be a buddy from high school, he and his fiance were heading home from somewhere when they were cut off by some reject not knowing how to drive. she had removed her seat belt to reach to the backseat and grab a and drink out the cooler for him when they were cut off. swerved to miss the car and ended up in a ditch. she got thrown from the car as it flipped several times he was crushed in it and killed. to this day she won't wear her seatbelt.

on a side note, it is perfectly legal for me to jump out of an airplane (and pray my chute works) taking a "chance" at dieing, its my life and my choice. However prove to me that me that me wearing my seatbelt will save YOUR life and we got a deal!
