New Ohio laws

I can't really comment on "to wear seat belt or not to wear seat belt" but I can say I've only been in one serious car wreck. I feel asleep at the wheel and hit a semi head on at 55 mph. My car (Pontiac Grand Am) was mangled but I was wearing a seat belt plus I was walking around when ambulance showed up. The drivers and sheriff officer told me they could belive I was in the car and was lucky to be alive, the ambulance driver even took pictures to show to emergency room doctors when we got to hospital. Later when Sheriff came to issue me a ticket for left of center he told me had I been awake and tenced up during wreck I would have been killed. But all I got was a sprined ankle (front drivers wheel was froced up into floor board) and a small cut in my ear from glass. So... I lived from wearing seat belt 'cause I was asleep but had I been awake I would had been killed... :dunno: Look at it how you may.

Simple fact is, while no one can predict what kind of wreck you'll be in, if ever at all, your odds of surviving a crash are much better if you're wearing a seatbelt than if you're not.

Hey Tom i did not know i was unable to take a day off from my otherwise error free lifestyle. There is your period i know its so surprising i can make one! I don't seem to see anywhere in your post where you give any examples of seat belts saving or ending lives; moreover, all it seems you did was attack me. Fret not i forgive you for that; however, the quotations around medical professional are very insensitive. I am a professional i was unaware that i could not take time off to act dumb and not care thanks for clearing that up for me boss.
In summation i beg for your forgiveness all mighty Tom please forgive me for my grammatical sins. I will always strive to be more like you in all my posts: judgmental, insecure, irrelevant , argumentative, and ignorant. So please accept my apology as i am now ashamed and shunned i will be error free from now on... eh on second thought just take a leap.
love the bomb muwah!

Does this mean I can deduct a weeks pay and slash your salary?:stirthepot::D

I was just in OH yesterday to do a pick up in Akron when I noticed them changing the speed limits signs. Man is that nice the only problems is now that I saw it I was passing other trucks like they were standing still because they are still doin' 55 and I'm trying to stay at 70. As for the other laws we have had them in PA for awhile now and I don't think anyone pays attention to them. I still see no lights on when its raining, no lights on in construction and still no seat belts. As for the lights thing if you ever drive a big truck in the rain and try to see cars out of your mirrors, you would leave your lights on constantly. :shok:

Wow, brings back an old memory. Way-way back in the 70s I was eastbound on the Pa toll road. It was raining and the spray was so bad I was unable to pass a truck for some 30 + miles until we finally hit a hill that slowed him down and the spray subsided. I took off and didn't come across another car for over a half hour.

About the safety belts, they have saved me a couple of times. One time was when a thug tried to pull me out of my car. I don't even go out the driveway without one on.

About seat belts...

My brother was involved in an accident earlier this year. He was in a transportation van, coming back down to Columbus, GA, from Atlanta. A Honda Civic swerved across the median and hit the van nearly head-on. In the van, there were three people including my brother, all wearing seat belts and all survived with minor injuries. In the Civic, there were three people, the two in the front died instantly, and the one sitting in the back walked away from the crash. Guess who wasn't wearing their seatbelt in the Civic. That's right, the two who died (they were ejected from the car). So take it for what it's worth.

the only time I ever even let the clutch out with out a seatbelt is when I am dropping/hooking trailers or backing up. when I got victimized by the weather back in February I am convinced I would have been severely injured or DOA if not for the seatbelt. as it was I had a few tools in the door pocket that became projectile weapons and nearly hit me in the head, again I would have been stabbed by my own screwdriver if I had not been belted in.

back in 1999 I sheared off a metal light pole, slid up the metal pole and rolled over the car it had landed on, and wrapped my 3 month old Dakota up in a wooden power pole upside down at the exit for the hospital on I40 in Kingman AZ. My right leg ripped the gearshift out of the transmission, I hit my head against the glass, broke my arm, shattered my jaw, lost all my teeth, and nearly bled out. I was getting transfusions while being loaded on the Helicopter to be lifeflighted to LasVegas. Had I not been wearing my seatbelt at the very least my kneck would have been broken because I was at almost 100 mph when I hit the ramp and my heart stopped. fortunatlely I was the only one injured.

I think those are all good and reasonable laws. Just became law here in Wisconsin for being able to be pulled over for not wearing your seat belt. Sure agree with those who hate the slow crusers in the left lane, way too many idiots don't have brains or common courtesy anymore.

I think the fine is like $700 for not moving over when an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road. That's if the person on the side cares.
