new need help

Shame that your cam is broken. You can't fix plastic, just replace it (ebay). When you say "jeezus nut" you mean the huge "wheel bearing adjusting nut"?
Wiggle it back & forth with channel-locking pliers while using a strong magnet (or dental pick or needle) to extract that "Single Hump Locking Key" from the slot. The key locks the nut, so the key must go before the huge nut will turn.

The knife blade thing is nothing. Otherwise, everything LOOKS great.

Sounds like you have WAY too much play. Watch this:

Hi,IthinkIam just going to go with the locking hub conversion as i dontmind getting out to lock the hubs.
I have read several articles here on doing so but I still dont know what all I need to buy to do so.
Do I just need to buy the locking hubs )or do I need to buy other parts to go with the Locking hubs? What are the Least expensive (brand and type)locking hubs that are good quality and work well?
Thanks
Craig
BTW the Jeezus lock ring is just what i read the lockring was called in a article I read on the site.

Hi,i dont know about the wheel and spindle bearings yet but I will by today or tommorow.I do see that some locking hubs require a seperate conversion kit to work so while the hubs may be less expensve by the timei add a conversion kit it brings themup to the price of warns which I assume are some of the best made?
Thanks
Craig

The Warn Jeep hubs are the best you can do for sure, however unless you plan to put much bigger tires on it and throw a traction-adding differential (locker) in the front, I think the plain-everyday Warn hubs would be fine (Warn pt# 29071) which I think are about $30 or so cheaper if I recall right. The first link cvar posted outlines some of the differences between the hubs.

The conversion itself is nothing more than changing the wheel bearing locknuts to a different type. Warn sells a kit you can buy, though I think it's a little overpriced when you can get two sets Dana pt#28068X for about ¼ the cost.

Hi,thanks for the info for sure!
Sounds like all I need to do is either go to Napa and get 2 bags of PN 6301653
or PN 28068x. Is there any difference between the Spicer and the Dana ?
I am not going to put bigger tires or a locker on it so I will get the Warn 29071 that you said.
do you know where the best price on the Warn hubs might be?
Thanks again
Craig
Ijust got through trying to find them by calling the Napa store and they toldme that they dont have them and neither does the ware house, also got a duh from Oreillys ,Maybe I am not askingfor the right things ,Itried asking for wheelbearing locknuts and tried asking for spindle locknuts.
What exactly do I need to ask for and where can i find them?Auto zone, carquest etc,or can I order them online ?
Thanks again
Craig

re

Wheel bearing or spindle nuts are what I probably would've called them also.

Do you have a 4WheelParts near you?

There's several up on Ebay...
http://www.ebay.com/sch/6000/i.html?_nkw=28068x&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_rdc=1

Or maybe order from Rockauto.com.

Dana = Spicer
Thanks 4x4junkie I really thank you alot for your help.
I dont have to worry about having the right parts which are now on their way ,both the hubs and the spindle kits which should be here by WED !
Thanks again
Craig

re

Good choice. If ya gotta buy parts, might as well go manual. Make sure the seller includes both the lock-nut and locking ring, since they differ from yours. Some even include the special cone wrench for the lock-nut.

removing c clip

what can I use to get the c clip off so I dont have to buy a special tool, also how do i get it back on once I get the manual hubs ?
Thanks ,Craig
I realize i probably did this backwards and should have done this first but can i put the Back wheels on jack stand as as well and check to see that both axles are turning with both tires off the front as they are now?
That way I will know that it is just the hubs that were the issue and not something else as well. And if I can where do i place the jackstands?Just right under the axle bought halfway between the wheels and rearend?
Thanks
Craig

The C-clip comes off easily with needle-nose pliers. Or even a weensy screwdriver will do. It pops back on with just finger pressure. You really should have a torque wrench for the lock-nut. Harbor Freight sells a 1/2" big one for just $20.

When using 4 jack-stands at once, choose a flat, solid, surface (eg, garage concrete slab), and NOT the driveway. I once made the stupid mistake of jacking it on a sloped driveway, and it rolled backwards -- OOPS!!!

I place my jackstands under the axle, spread wide apart for stability (See http://imgur.com/a/CKVUo ) Did your sweetie buy you tall stands?

Tip: shove your removed wheels under the truck. So if a jack-stand fails, the wheel will save your ass from getting crushed under there.

Hi,I have to use the drive but it it is relativly flat and will put my wifes vehicle on one end and my other vehicle on the other just to make sure there is no movement while I am checking it in addition to shoving the wheels under the vehicle.
The stands appear to be as high as the ones seen in the link you sent me.
Thanks
Craig

re

Hi,when the hubs come in and I get them installed what is the proper way to use them ? IE will I move the switch inside the cab? Before or after locking in hubs?etc etc.
Thanks
Craig
Btw I checked the Bearing and they seemed to be fine with no discoloration or metal shavings etc. Should I repack the with grease or just put them back in as is ?
