Hello, my name is Jared. I'm 19 and from Millington, Michigan. I own a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD. I stumbled upon this web forum while looking for help on a transmission issue I have. I just went and purchased some Lucas Oil for it. It has been slipping or just completely not going into gear at all. I replaced the tranny Filter and all of the oil and it still seems to have a problem. There's 275,000 miles on it. If the Lucas Oil doesn't take care of the problem I will just go ahead and pay for a new transmission or a rebuild. I've found a tranny (5R55E) that has been completely rebuilt by and ASE certified specialist for $850.00 that he will install for me. Not sure on prices though, hoping someone here could help.

At any rate, I'm glad I found this website and I hope to meet a lot of Ranger owners such as myself.

- Jared.

Edit- Was asked for pictures. It's getting dark out fast and I snapped one of the side until tomorrow.

Welcome to the site! I don't think that putting new oil in will completely fix the problem but it might delay it. You must drive your truck a lot to have 275,000 miles. Put some pictures of it on here.

Thanks, man =] Yeah, I do drive it a lot. I'll throw some pictures up in a few.
I replaced all the tranny oil half and half with Lucas. Drove it about 10 miles and it's shifting kind of late but it's working fine. Comes out of gear every now and then when I'm braking.

Let me go grab some pictures.

Hey Jared, Welcome. I have the 5R55E trans in my '97. I've never had probs with it.
I agree, do what you can to buy yourself some time but $850 sounds reasonable when it's time to swap it out. You've done well to get 275k out of ANY auto trans!
Good luck!

Hey, thanks man !
I thought 850 was a deal too.
I would do it myself but I'm by no means a tranny man, lol.
