I'm in the market for a car, and I was hoping that you guys could give me some recommendations. I'm looking for either a coupe, or a smaller sedan, sporty, but with decent gas mileage (at least 20 mpg). My budget is $10,000 max.

So far I've been looking at early 2000's Audi TT's and A4's, but I've heard a lot about their reliability issues, and high cost of maintenance. I also looked at BMW 325i's from the same years, but again, I've heard about some reliability issues.

If you guys could offer some suggestions, I would appreciate it. And just to avoid wasted time, there are no circumstances under which I will drive a Miata.

well german rides are nice and fast, but expensive on maintenance. if u want something reliable, u may want to look on the japanese side.
i would go for a 2 door accord.

How could you consider anything but a Mustang?

More info. $10 large buys a lot of different cars. Some things to consider: Euro plates garner more $$$ for parts to repair. Euro plates are FAR from reliable unless you go high end which will limit what you get for $10,000. You may stumble on a deal.

If you are comfortable working on them go for it. If it were me go with what ya know. Look at reliability ratings. Check out what you see on the road. There are a ton of Civics and Accords. My 04 Forester has 120,000 on it and besides the 110,000 timing belt I've done nothing to it cept routine stuff. It even has the OE battery in it still.

I've looked at Civics and Accords. They're both front wheel drive, and they are Honda Civics and Accords. To me, they're both one step away from wearing a ball cap sideways with the size tag still on it.

RSX. Wish I had 3 grand more, I would have gotten one instead of my integra.

But my teggy handles great and goes fast enough to get me in trouble... and gets alright gas mileage. I get bout 25-27 in town. She got 25 on my last trip up to portland... doing 100+ the whole way.

Or an impreza. Best damn vehicles ever built IMO (until you have to work on em that is, then they suck)

You could get a pretty nice 02-03 wrx for that price... maybe even an 04-05 by now...

Really? Huh. Didn't think of that but around here most Honda cars are driven by lilly whites not rap brats. Just keep the Donks and fart cans plus the wings off the trunk and you'll be fine.

I would recommend Volkswagen... My dad just picked up an 02 Golf for 5000 and it was in awesome condition and it gets like 24 in town and last trip my dad said he got about 33 highway going an average of 65mph.

Plus the best part about it... with the 5 spd manual I can leave it in 5th and it will rocket past anyone on the highway...

buy the $500 ranger in the other thread....$9500 could make it pretty cool.

My sister drives an '03 Neon she bought for $3000 with 73,000 miles on it. Fun little car to drive, gets good gas mileage and goes nicely at 110mph(not that I would know or anything...). Not exactly sporty but i figured id toss it into the mix

OR

Find a nice ranger, lower it, and swap in an ecoboost!

If you want something sporty, reliable, and won't break the on maintaince, look at a Subaru.

For $10k, you should be able to find one that hasn't been thrashed.

Go with the Audi A4 choice. Stay away from the TT, They are usualy abused.
You should be able to get a 2004 A4 for about 10,000.

If you don't like that get a ford freestar van. :icon_rofl:

One of my friends has a Pontiac Vibe it has tons of room in the front and back seat, very comfortable and pretty quick (double overhead cam 4 cylinder) and he romps on it and still gets an average of 24 mpg. Great stock sound system and there pretty cheap, he picked it up with under 40k miles for $7,500. Good suspension too, got it airborne on some dirt roads and doing 55 theres no trouble staying on the road when you hit bumps. Nothings broke yet either haha. Check it out.
