New car suggestions

I'm in the Navy. My squadron got moved down here to Jax when they closed the base in Brunswick, Maine.

Who's gonna protect us from the Canadians then? :icon_twisted:

Seriously, THANK YOU for your hard work!

If you find a Subie within an hour of Manchester, NH you want to buy, I'll check it out and deliver it to JAX for you. Just pay for the gas & tolls, we'll be even.

me no like snow, like cold weather even worse...... if it get below 60 I have to start wearing sleeves....

I do miss having my Ranger in the snowstorms. Nobody else was brave enough to head out in them, so I could haul ass down some of the back roads without the cops caring. Walmart parking lots are a lot of fun with a good foot of snow, too.

No. There's too many light poles. One of the mall parking lots worked better.

Winter is the ONLY time I can get my 2.3 to break traction. The rest of the year it's a safe combo of too much grip and not enough power. :icon_rofl: On dry asphalt, I've taken curves as speeds sport bike riders deem nuts! It's surprising how well Destination A/T's handle!

Another option that is really popular out west here, are japanese direct imports. They are right hand drives (usually done to the nuts) but because of japanese emission standards, they just build a new car rather than retrofit a 5 year old one. Heres a link to a local guy who does them.

there are no circumstances under which I will drive a Miata.

So we have established that you are not gay....

I know it doesn't fit the general concept of most of the parameters, but my sister just got a 99 Pasat wagon. 2.0T 5-speed. Fun to drive. They made them in sedans too.

Maxima. The four door sports car. At least that's what their advertising said. Early 2000's with the 3.5L v-6 had some oil leak issues, but they are stout.

that's what my van is...a rhd toyota town ace, turbo diesel,4x4,low miles.when they get to what we would call 'almost broken in' in north america, they call it 'too old to be on our streets' in japan.takes a while getting used to going to the right side door when going to the vehicle, though.i've opened the passenger door to get in,looked around to see if anyone noticed, then went to the other side more times than i can remember.

He said SPORTY no slug-like!!!

He could always come up to New England and find a Subie. I think they're the state car of Vermont or something stupid like that.

DUDE, just slap a winged spoiler, slap some decals on the back glass, and some low profile tires, there it's "sporty". :icon_rofl:

Seriously I like the Subaru Impreza '93-2001 model(1st gen) but finding one that isn't riced up like a Honda Civic will be tough.

German cars all suck for reliability and expense of repair and even parts availability. BMW's are overpriced peices of shit. I work on cars as a hobby and I speak from experience. Fords hold up better than GM or Chrysler products, especially long term- like when the damn thing is 20 years old for example. Don't even consider anything built in Korea... pure trash. The jap cars are the way to go for sporty/mpg, and Honda/Acura seem to be the best for the money. Parts reasonable, etc. Toyota parts are sometimes proprietary and expensive as hell. Nissan OK depending on the model, but built some bad engines recently. Mazda is reliable, parts OK, but can't seem to get a lot of power out of the same size engine as Honda. Suby parts can be high ($400 for an IAC valve?) but seem reliable. Let us know what U end up buying. 10 grand buys a lot of ride nowadays...

Yeah, German cars do get expensive, but they sure are fun as hell to drive. Plus, my grandad is a VW mechanic, so he knows a lot of tips and tricks for them, and has a lot of the specialized tools.

I just found this one, but the place isn't open today, so I can't go look at it in person yet.

I had a Golf GTi while I was in the UK. It was quick as hell.

Fixed it for you!

Nice car, but there's one thing lacking: a TRUE stick shift. The Tiptronic and other manual auto's don't do much for me.

I also found a 2002 GLI with the 6 speed manual, but it has a wing, and it's fwd.
http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/1886100385.html The 2003 GLX has the advantage of all wheel drive, no wing, and better color. The Tiptronic is a pretty awesome transmission, though.
