I am converting my '94 ranger to an Electric Vehicle and one of the projects is to make the bed so it can tilt up. Then, the battery boxes can be accessed for battery maintainence. I have found "dump" bed kits with hydraulic systems. All I want is for the bed to tilt up and down. Any websites or DIY instructions anywhere?

Dump bed

Saw one installed on "TRUCKS" years ago.

The lift system was a air bag much like the air bag "Jack" you put under the rocker panel and stick the hose on the tail pipe with the engine running. I think the system had a dedicated compressor.

Info:

I'm sure the bed would have to be reinforced with feathers. I like the ram with suitable reinforcements. Not only that but an apropriate coller and sleeve assembly.. resourvor for hydralyics, matched to bed loads. Quite an undertaking! Why not just rehab an existing group or spend alot less for a nice tilt trailer?

Forgot about that. It does raise the bed up about an inch (if you use 1" square tubing for a dump frame--I think I used 1 1/2") so the body lines would be off unless you give the cab a 1" lift as well. You can tilt it back much farther if you do it by hand with 2 people--you wouldn't need a jack. You can use hood pins to hold it down to the frame in the front of the bed.

Isn't it A LOT simpler to cut a hole in the bottom of the bed for access?

Or else make the battery mount tray removable with a suitable jack (it's gonna be HEAVY).

Why not create some type of quick disconnect for the bed mounting bolts that are accessible from above? It wouldn't be too hard for a few people to lift it off once it's disconnected.
