Well my old (original) fuel pump went out about 2 months ago and I replaced it with a new one. I bought the PUMP ONLY, not the entire assembly!

I immediately had a problem with the new pump. As soon as I would get to a 1/4 tank or less the truck would randomly stall on me from not getting fuel. It seems to happen more while going downhill but I'm not certain.

I noticed the new pump was VERY hard to get seated properly into the base of the assembly because the old rubber line was angled and the new line was straight. I decided to remove the newly installed pump and try to correct the problem thinking that may have been the problem......WRONG!!!

Is there something else I need to check, or could this simply be a fuel filter problem getiing debri from the bottom of the tank? Thanks.

Now that I think about it, it never happens under acceleration. If that matters. I think I'm going to go down to my local AutoZone right now and drop the $10 on a new fuel filter. It has'nt been changed in ages. Thanks

The parts stores here won't warranty a new pump unless you have a reciept for a filter on the same day. A plugged filter is often the cause of a failed pump. What about the strainer? did you replace it? Is it on properly?

Yeah you're right. When they told me that I bought a new filter/screen deal for the pump when I bought it at AutoZone a couple months ago. I'm talking about the filter that's downstream inside the framerail on the drivers side.

For some reason ford put two filters on the fuel system. I have'nt changed the inline filter in over 5 years. It actually may be longer then that. I know there's well over 150,000 miles on that filter.

Could that be my problem? Thanks.

Well wish me luck here..........I just pulled out my old one and replaced it with a new one. I could'nt even blow through the old one! I could blow through the new one like regular breathing. Now all I have to do is take a quick shower to get the gas out of my mouth and test drive it. Wish me luck! Thanks Mutant Pony!

Well, it's still not fixed. Just took it for a test run with the new fuel filter on and it's still dying on me when I come to a quick downhill stop at idle.

It has to either be my fuel filter (which I just replaced) or my fuel pump because when I have a 1/2 tank or more it does'nt do it. I'm pretty sure I put the pump and strainer on right. I had to make sure the strainer would'nt interfere with the float.

Any other ideas? Thanks.
