i just picked up a dana 44 from a wagoner today for free. im planning on putting it under my 99. im going to do leafs since it is easier. my question is what leafs should i use that i can find in a junk yard? thank you.

thank you very much. any other good things i should know?

Once the IFS is totally out, theres no turning back. Whats the wheel bolt pattern on a waggy D44, is it the same as a rangers?

waggy axles come 6-lug stock
but can be converted to 5-lug with the right parts.

I'm using toyota springs
waggy springs are popular too

ya its a 6 lug. I'm not sure what the rear axle is i'm thinking of using it so they will match. i just need to go look at it again to identify it.

If your rear axle in your ranger is an 8.8, keep it under your truck. I would convert the waggy to a 5 bolt pattern instead.

use the D44 out of the rear of the wagoneer also. Or find a 9" and convert the waggy to 5lug.

the waggy springs are those going to give enough lift to run 36's or should i buy the lift springs for the yj? thanks for the help.

the Rancho 3" Waggy springs are nice.

thank you. and for a steering box. what is the best choice?

Lots of guys use IFS toyota steering boxes. They are a rearward swing box (pitman arm points towards the rear of the truck) because of this they have to be mounted further forward. I actually have one for sale. I managed to find a much rarer FJ60/62 steering box which is very similar to the toyota IFS box but is a forward swing box. I have my front axle pushed forward so its easier for me to fit this type of box. I could fit a IFS box but I found the FJ box for dirt cheap so Im going to use it.

Some also use a ranger steering box from a 83-97.

most people runing the 44044 springs are running like 38" tires, which is alot for a stock dana 44 front.

The stock waggys should be good for like a 35" tire

that's what I should've used, my stock toyota leafs are way too soft, even with an extra leaf added.

yj leafs would be too soft stock also, the use those in samurais all the time.
