need input on another d44 sas please

I'm putting cromoly shafts in the 44 so I'm not to worried about the size of the tires. but I'm not to sure what size I'm going to run. i was going to get the axles in and see what would fit. thanks for the help. I'm probably going to need a lot of more help down the line. if i get everything i need, do you think the front axle can be done in one weekend?

If you are REALLY REALLY good and have a buddy that knows what to do and you also know what to do and have EVERYTHING planned out and bought, then yes, I have seen it done. But they put in ALL day for both days to do it. So a weekend job yes, but not for those who dont know.

No its not a weekend job. Something always goes wrong.

I've seen D44 chrome-moly shafts break with 35's in mud, FYI...

:icon_twisted:

I've seen D44 4340 shafts push trucks on 35-37" through rocks w/o breaking:thefinger:

just sayin.

I'm just saying that he can't rely on the 4340 shafts to eliminate the weaknesses of the axle and run any size tire he wants.

And... my comment was partially directed towards Bray, as he snapped a [4340] shaft last year in a mud pit. :thefinger:

I agree. Just busting your balls:headbang:

I saw those pictures. But wasnt that due to a bad temporing job or something to the axle from the factory?

so just found a set of 35 12.5 15's bfg mudders with 90% tread life left that a buddy is giving me for free. so im running 35's

They claimed it was possibly a bad batch. The new shaft supposedly has undergone a different heat treatment process (never looked into what that process was) and is supposed to be stronger. The new shaft definitely looked different, and I haven't had a problem since. Lifetime warranty FTW.
