I have a stock '03 ranger and i am hunting a front skid plate for or looking for pic ideas on how to build one

superlift makes a skid plate for rangers with IFS i think... you can check those out.

The new FX4 Level II's have stainless steel skidder up front. It ain't cheap but its an option. Im making one for my truck, literally bending a piece of sheet steel in a brake and calling it done.

www.millersfabrication.com makes a nice one. You'd have to call them and see if it fits an '03. I know it works for the '98-'00 bumper.

Just thinking, how about taking a piece of 1/4" Aluminum Diamond Plate and shape it like the Pre-Runner Skids narrow at the front and wider at the diff.
Mount it to the Bumper and the lower portion of the front diff brkts.
Bend the ends for mounting, and the sides for strength and maybe add some bracing in the middle that can be bolted to the skid.

Just thinking out loud...

Here is the best pic of mine I have right now. It is off a pre-tacoma toyota truck. I welded nuts to the bottom of my lower control arm crossmember to bolt the bottom up and I made a crossmember out of angle iron and some plate for brackets that goes from frame rail to frame rail and top of skid bolts to that. It was really simple and the skid is already the correct size and they are very easy to come by.

those skid plates aren't worth a damn. at least the one that was on my buddy's 91 toyota pickup, looks just like yours. he went through a mudhole, came out, and the thing was mangled to pieces, i can post pics if you like :icon_twisted:

I know it isn't the most badass thing out there haha, but I've smashed it on a few things and its holding tough so far. Though I'm in south Jersey and all we have is mud and some trails with stumps (pretty rare), I'm not even sure I know what a rock is?

Edit: For the record that picture was up in NY that's why I'm on a rock.

lol, we got rocks and mud and im not a fan when the two combine, thats why i like to go pretty slow in mud holes, my BFG M/Ts really help when it comes to slow and steady, i'll post pics of what rocks in mud holes have done to my truck and my buddy's toyota just to amuse you, haha :icon_twisted:

just a little mudhole that i went through no problem did that to that little sheet metal "skidplate"
sorry for hi-jacking this thread!!
