I posted here a while ago about ordering a fuel pump for my 2004 Ford Ranger Edge 2wd. The pump I ordered was to tall (I will attach pics). I ordered a second one off Amazon. This time I contacted the seller have them my vin# and all the info they needed. The fuel pump they sent was the exact same (taller) pump I ordered off eBay.

So, I go to AutoZone and the guy goes and gets three fuel pumps. I had the stock pump with me. They were all the same size as the ones I ordered.

I am sure the pumps I ordered and the pumps at AutoZone will fit a Ford Ranger just not mine. I checked the inside of the door jam and it was built March of 2004. I looked up a 2003 and it is totally different.

I have had my truck in my shop for a month or more just trying to find the right pump. If anyone has any ideas, comments, etc they would be greatly appreciated.

In the pics the taller fuel pump is all I can find out it will not squeeze down far enough to get the ring back on. The pumps I ordered and the ones at AutoZone should fit but the don't.

Have you tried doing some comparisons on Rock Auto? I just looked and it appears that there are different part numbers based on wheelbase. Not sure why that is. But maybe tank shape differs with wheelbase and therefore pump/ sender assembly is different.

They ask you the wheelbase before you get the pump mine is a standard cab 117". But I believe the same pump fits the ext cab as well.

I know that original pump was stock because it had the OEM part# on it. But it was on a sticker and after being in the tank all those years. I couldn't make out all the numbers and letters.

Thanks so much for the reply

I think I am going to just ending up buying the pump and put it on my old one. Thing is the truck is an 04 (17 years old) and I would REALLY like to replace the entire assembly. I have even wondered if someone replaced the gas tank, but their are no signs of it being worked on. I am not a welder but my Dad is and I asked him if I order another fuel pump assembly and cut it and weld it to the size of the old one. He said "I don't know" :).

On the older ones, you could replace just the pump and reuse the bracket and sender assembly. I would think that should be possible on that model.

That looks like it will be my only option. But I hate not to put a brand new assembly in a 17 year old truck.

I did that with my 93 a few years ago. Working great.

Can you post the working part number so anybody finding this thread later can look it up?

The par# from O'reilly's for the correct fuel pump assembly for my 2004 Ford Ranger Edge regular cab 2wd 3.0l is part# A30088.

I really hope this helps someone.

What brand would that be, or is that an O’Reilly #?

Thanks!

The brand is Precision Parts. I just got the # of the box. I don't know if it is an O'reilly's part#.
