im going to put a 92 explorer 8.8 in to my 88 ranger super cab, i dont get what i need to chang? :dntknw: i have read the tech section tons and just dont get it.:icon_twisted:;missingteeth;

The spring perches need to be cut off and welded on top as well as shock mounts.

You still haven't got this done yet? Slacker...:icon_twisted:
Not sure on the flange thing, I have a spare early 7.5 flange and a spare late 7.5 flange if either will help you out any. The later one (I think it's a 99 iirc) has a larger bolt pattern.

Or you could probably get away with redrilling the 8.8 flange if they won't swap over.

You could also pick up an large pattern drive shaft. You could make it a one-piece too and do that swap as well.

Don't swap flanges on the axle, swap the flange on the driveshaft, on a crush sleeve axle if you loosen the pinion nut there is a high probability that you wont get the proper pinion bearing pre-load without a new crush sleeve and going though the whole procedure to attain proper pinion bearing pre-load.

i cant find a 98 new one peace shaft for the life of me thats why i havent got this damb thing in yet, so i gave up looking for that and ill just use my old shaft for now, so do i need to go get a explorer shaft? and change what on it? i dont know why im not getting it i do all the work on my truck im just mind farting and it pissing me off.

so what do in need to make my 88 shaft work? mybe one of you guys can explain it better to me. thanks for putting up with a tard for a minute. lol

I just used the rear shaft from a 8.8 truck.

cant i swap the flang off the 7.5 and put it on the 8.8.

No, the pinion gear of the 8.8" uses a different spline than the 7.5" axle so your small flange won't fit the 8.8" pinion.

BTW, if you don't already have one a one-piece shaft from a 1988-up is a "bolt-in" with the large flange of the Explorer axle.

NORMALLY on an '88-90 Ranger Supercab you have to either put a larger flange on your rear axle OR find one of the "small" front companiun flange adapters that are normally used on the FRONT of a 98-00
one-piece supercab driveshaft.

BTW, you not only have to put spring perches on the tops of the
axle tubes but you also have to add shock mounts, the explorer
axle doesn't have shock mounts because the shocks mount to
the spring plates, not the axle like on a Ranger

the EASY way to gett spring mounts to put
on the explorer axle tubes is to buy them NEW from Moroso, Competition Engineering, Jegs or Summit.

they usually run about $25 for the pair.
