Hey,
anyone know if its possible to convert a 2wd 07 ranger sport into a 4wd?
if its possible then what exactly would i need??:dunno:

If you have torsion bar suspension up front its almost bolt on, if you have coil springs you need a frame with torsion bars. Assuming you have the torsion bar suspension up front, you wil need a 4wd trans, transfer case, both driveshafts, front differential(gears to match rear), both axle shafts, and spindles. The next issue is the electronics for the 4wd. If you want an electric transfer case you have to change the dash harness, get a radio bezel with a switch and a cluster with the 4wd lights(optional). If you go manual transfer case, you don't have to do the wiring. You may be better off trading your truck in, especially if you are not mechanically inclined enough to do it yourself.

WOW thats not to bad but i have heard of trading the truck in but finding a 4x4 ranger is a pain in the ass... Plus buliding a truck is way more fun.. do you know of a rough est on the cost of it?? And yes i do have the torsion bars in the front

i can tell ya it wont be cheap. id sell the truck and buy a 4x4. then if you like building trucks you can build that 4x4 to whatever you like.

Sell it, buy a 4x4. The vehicle will still warranty that way if you do it you're on your own.

Not worth the effort, imo.

i mean it dose great in the mudd now have it on 32x11.5 mudd rovers that i put on on stock hieght no rub nothing.... but would like the 4x4 for that extra grab??

I would guess you could spend 1500 minimum depending on what you have to pay for parts.

That could be done, I've done it. The easiest way is to find a rolled parts truck, preferably with the same size motor.

Coincidently I am doing one right now. I took a wrecked 2wd and sat it on an egde frame. It is still 2wd but not for long....lol

Damn well looks like i need to go find a 3.0 4x4 and start to part it out anything else i will need???
Also since i do have torsoin bars do i nee to find a 4x4 with them to??

The only thing you will need other than the mechanical/electrical parts is the mount for the differential on the front of the frame. When you look at the parts truck you will see the mount I am talking about. Its on the rear of the front differential by the driveshaft yoke. Its not a bolt on part so you will either need one cut from a parts truck or have to fab one and bolt or weld it to your frame.

I think 98-up will work but I have never messed with anything newer than an 04
