My temporary fuel filter housing fix

So i was trying to get my fuel filter shield off it is hitting the bottom of my floor, i was using an air chisel, it bounced off and hit the fuel filter and broke a nipple off coming from the gas tank, my temporary fix was to remove the fuel filter housing(which is like 100$ or so) and use some brake lines that i flared to connect the return lines and the sending lines together, and this is what it looks like. And i never did get the shield off.

I'm gonna order the filter housing from ford as soon as possible cause i don't want trash getting into my engine

I can relate to repairing one thing and then accidentally causing more work in the progress.....what a nightmare!

Don't ask me how I know, but what a headache. Hope you get it done soon. Later.

Pump

I replaced my exterior pump with a Holly high flow and eliminated the internal pump just in case of a failure on the trail, I carry a spare factory external pump.

I'm definitely interested in this. IF my Ranger did breakdown from fuel pump failure roadside it is kind of a pain to remove the bed/tank to repair.

Do you have any part #'s or links? Thanks.

Mounted in the stock location in the left frame rail.

Thanx fer the good info on using brake hose as a repair material, didn't mean to hijack yer thread.

So you mounted the fuel pump where the fuel filter sits in the framerail? If so, then where did you mount the filter?

The filter is in it'e factory location right next to the T-case.
Just got back from wheelin in the snow and mud when my front drive failed, think it's lektrickle...:dntknw:
 
Actually the fuel filter assembly casing isn't supposed to come off, you remove the bottom two bolts and slide the casing, using the existing mounting bolt at the top, towards the engine and out of the way. ; ) I learned from your example how NOT to break my filter assembly.
 
And that is helpful in a thread that's been dead for 4 years how?
 
Helpful because when I first started having problems with my fuel delivery system I began looking at these forums, this post specifically about bypassing my fuel filter housing assembly because mine has a clogged valve that requires more pressure to push fuel through than my fuel pumps generate. Before I did anything about it I read this 'dead' thread and learned how NOT to break the nipples off my housing by using power tools to try and remove a shielding which isn't meant to be removed but slid aside.
 
hell yeah, this is a good thread. Just ripped my canister out only to find out the check valve is hooped, and i wasnt sure how i was gonna fix it or bypass it. Thanks for the help fellas! :icon_hornsup:

Thought I would chime in and wake this thread up.

I was attempting to remove and replace the filter inside this housing today only to discover the housing was empty! No filter in it.
Ive had my truck since 2003 and just discovered it has two fuel filters... well is supposed to have two fuel filters.

Anyway.. my housing is intact but I did manage to break one of the fuel line connectors.

Is there any reason why I cant just totally get rid of the filter housing and run a second inline filter in its place and just loop the return line?
I feel running another inline filter would make for much easier changes in the future.
Any thoughts?
