My Son-in-Law needs help!

How's he holding up? Hope he has the patience and feeling well otherwise.

He has his good days.....he's on pain medicine as needed for the cancer that is in his liver ......about once a week he gets a pain in his side that takes his breath away....kind of like a bad pulled muscle that acts up.....

He's usually cheerful...but you can imagine how the stress of not knowing what's ahead can wear a person down....

UPDATE: His surgeon said today that he has to keep the vacuum pump on his incision another week or two (he was supposed to give it back to the hospital today...but it ain't happening)

So....that's gonna postpone his liver chemotherapy a couple more weeks---which is actually a good thing--

he'll be able to spend a few days at the beach and gain a few pounds back after losing 26 pounds so far.....

Wow!! The poor guy has been through a lot. I am wishing the best for him.

Won't the bikini clad broads make him sweat more ?? And what about his heart ?? Up here, girl-watching is considered a dangerous sport-

Dont pray but will have a beer.

john...thanks....close enough /he can't drink cause of his liver :headbang:

Naaaaaaa....his heart is in really good shape....:icon_rofl:

FRIDAY update.......He got a "Port" this morning at the hospital....it's some kind of gizmo that connects to a large vein? in his chest.

The doctors injects medicine/chemo-drugs into his body thru the special "inline-adapter".....that way, they won't have to sick him with a arm catheter twice a week for the next year.

He said his shoulder/chest area was getting pretty sore as the pain meds wore off....

(he still has the fluid drain-pump in his surgery incision--that's been slow in healing )

one step at a time.................

Good luck. One of my best friend from 6th-12th grade went through cancer twice - once in 6th grade and again sophomore year. Medicine is getting better and better, even since then. He had a port as well and he was much better off with it than he was without it - the chemo is more effective because it doesn't take as long to get pumped through the body. It will be a hard road but he'll pull through.

Thanks everyone for checking up on him.

Yah, I had a port too. It was explained to me that the chemo is corrosive and that the sooner it gets to the heart, the better.

Man.....that's some strong meds!

Yup, Taxol, is an extract of a yew tree that grows in the Northwest. It was discovered when a farmer turned his cattle into a new pasture and they all died after eating the yews. It was painful, but worth it.

Taxol.....I'll see if it's on his list when they start chemo........

The doctor took the the tube out of his incision---and he doesn't have to carry the vacuum pump around with him 24 hours a day any more....

but....every 2 weeks he will have to wear a chemo-pump for 48 hours in a row---starting today because his liver has enlarged.....

forward 2 steps/back one step.......

Progress is progress. I am very happy to hear the tube is out. I guess the most important thing is..... does he feel any better?
