My little Iron Ranger {Part 2}

lol ooo man i cant wait to see that thing on the street!!! hummm.. man ur like a kid in a toy store lol and you finally got the toy of ur dreams :) i was dancnig around idoit when i got mine started congrats man 2 years of hard work finally paid off:icon_thumby:

I got a second vid with some revs. Boy, this thing is a monster!!!!

But, about 2 minutes after I shot the second vid, the top radiator hose poped off and puked coolant all over the place:annoyed::annoyed:. What a mess. My brother told me the top one wasn't on tight, so hopefully now that ALL the hose clamps are tightened down, the overflow should work(it did when I pressure tested it.)

Rev it up!!

Here's a second vid of it reving a little. Again, idle needs adjustment and I needed to hold it at 2000RPM since it's a new flat-tappet cam.

For the record: The sound is not inline with the vid, when he blirped the throttle body, the power was instant, but for some reason, the sound is laggin behind the video.

Yeah, like, not even two minutes after the truck was off, there was a POOF!!, and the top hose blew of and rained fresh coolant all over the pass. side of the motor bay.:annoyed::annoyed: It sounded like opening one of those Monster XXL cans(has the twist off top), Not good. At least it wasn't the bottom hose, or ALL of it would've emptied out.

You have no idea what a help my brother has been. He found out that the 92 ranger has a fuel relay under the hood, but the 89 mustang(wiring harness components) had it under the driver's seat.

So, we were stumped for a little bit. But he Googled a mustang wiring diagram(in color), bought a $30 relay, and professionally spliced one in under the hood. It looks factory(all if it does:icon_thumby:), so it goes to show that after 1991, Ford put the fuel relay under the hood(where it should be!:annoyed:), where as 1991 and before, had it under the driver's seat.

See? Learn something everyday.:D:icon_confused:

IT'S ALIVE!! IT'S ALIVE!!

Not the best sounding(open headers, no O2's, and the idle needs adjusting), but she lives!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, after 2 1/2 years, I finally get to this point and she breathes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got the true duals welded up to the muffler, O2's installed, electric fan installed, and the slave cylinder is FINALLY done(Broke 3 of them in the process:annoyed:) Pics will follow.

Now I got to wait for the slow tranny shop to get the third member back-lashed. They said it would be done Wednesday, but, here I am on Saturday, and not done yet.:annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

Well, here's the new pics. The idle and timing are set, and she is very strong and responsive!! Me likey!!!!

Here's my fruity charcoal canister:icon_twisted:. My brother laughed at me when he saw it, but when I installed it, he didn't think it looked too bad.

Various pics of the true dual exhaust.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........................... We'll keep this one from the fuzz. Notice how it's tucked behind the frame? :D:D:D:D:D:D

I think the drive shaft will juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust squeeze through.(I hope)

And, the slave cylinder with some various hydraulic and pipe fittings with some brake line in the mix.

And, what happens when you weigh 275 and roll onto a rut in the cement.:icon_twisted: I squished it flat to the ground. First words out of my brother's mouth "Fat A$$":shok:
Noooooooooooooo...................I'm not fat, the engineers didn't design to take side weight. Jeeeeez.........................:dunno::dunno:

I tried to straighten it..............................didn't work too well.

The rear end is finally done!!!!!!!!!

After lots of sweat, fear, and prayers, the third member is back from the tranny shop and we slipped it on. OK, that part accomplished, now to see if the axles are either right or wrong:sad:.

Slid both of them in, and.............................YES!!!!! , she fits and spins like I measured for.:yahoo: The axles fit, the drums fit, the rims fit, EVERYTHING FITS!!!!! Now I can measure for a driveshaft and have it road worthy in a few weeks :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Also notice, the yolk is dead center between the gas tank and the mufflers. I was hoping for that one too!!

Looks good.

I noticed you have you throttle/IAC/EGR piece mounted 90 deg upward. It that the way Explorers mounted them? Mustangs had them with the throttle underneath, and IAC in front. Seems to work fine, though.

It's always lots of fun re-doing things.

Yeah, it looks a little funny. We did that so I could still use the ranger's throttle cable, works and functions very nicely.

My brother and I measured for a drive shaft(a whooping 68":icon_surprised:) and it should be done tomorrow.

Just need that installed, the box installed, bumper lift, and E-brake cables, then she'll be ready for the first test run................... :icon_bounceblue: :icon_bounceblue: :icon_bounceblue: :icon_bounceblue:

It's only a matter of days............................

Well, got the box put back on with the 3" body lift (harder than it sounds), and got my true duals figured out. The exit points are exactly where I want them and they are at the same height also.

Since the front is an inch lower than the rear(motor weight), it looks like a drag truck ready to conquer the highway:D.

P6230554.jpg

My hitch I built now looks very out of place because of the 3" body gap. I'm thinking of selling this one and using the $$$ to buy materials for another one, except it'll be more "sleek" looking.

P6230555.jpg

Yes. True duals are possible(although space is tight)..................
P6230556.jpg

P6230557.jpg

Nice new driveshaft sits right smack dab in the middle of the mufflers and gas tank. That's a relief!!
P6230558.jpg

And proof that an 11" drum will fit behind a 14" rim (3/8" clearance all around).
P6230559.jpg

I should have another sound video either tomorrow or Thursday. She should be street worthy on Friday...................:yahoo::yahoo:

awsome truck! i have to say though the rusty leaf spring looks out of place next to everything else since its done so well!

I know, those may get replaced next year(easy swap), just getting the big things done first.:icon_thumby:
