My little Iron Ranger {Part 2}

Looks really good so far, can't wait to see it done!

Have you ever run a EFI 5.0? Just letting you know if you don't know that you may have issues with the breather on the valve cover if you are going to run a PCV system. It will make a big vacuum leak.

It looks like you have less clearance than I do between your radiator and water pump. :icon_twisted: What are you doing as far as cooling, or are you undecided at this point?

The only vacuum lines I'm runnin' in this rig are the brake booster and a line that's connected to something inside the cab (I think).

No smog, so less worries, but thanks for the heads up!!:icon_thumby:

I got a 16" fan off ebay that'll pull 1350 cfm and is 2.25" thick. We'll see how well that works.

If it's not enough, I can squeeze a couple of smaller fans in there, but I think we'll be OK.

I don't know why there's so little room between the water pump and the radiator:icon_confused:. The motor's moved back as far as she can go, I only have 1/8" of clearance between the back of the valve cover and the firewall.

Hmm.. I'll have to look a little harder. The fan I have is a 16" Zegro cool, can't remember CFM, but it's much thicker than 2.25". A left over from my 2.9L I was trying to save money on.

Looks like from the pics you're using adapter plates (AA?)? I have my engine as far back as it can go as well. Engine sets down in there pretty low even.. I was going to use 1/4" steel plates and use my V6 mounts, but ended up using a set of AA plates that came with a set of headers I picked up off someone on RPS.

Cool swap tho man.

Yeah, all the fans in Summit Racing at 16" was about 3 1/2"-4" thick. I don't know where my brother found it on ebay, but they say 2.25.

Might be a lie or they measured in the wrong place, typical:annoyed:

I hate those AA plates.:annoyed::annoyed::mad:

So no PCV? Will you be running a MAF?

Also, you will need to also run vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator.

I am sure you got it all covered. I am just pretty big into 5.0 Mustangs so i know a few things about how to make them run right with the EFI.

Good luck!

MAF-Yes

OH, yeah the fuel regulator too, that one's covered.

On the back of the motor, where the PCV is located, I have a breather on the tree instead of a line to the intake.

I was told the only function of this is to re-circulate oil vapors back into the motor to be burned up.

Right?

I went to look at the 9" (she's been in a storage unit for 6 months now) and ALL the fluid leaked out on the concrete and into the other storage spaces:shok:

I immediately freaked out, got a flashlight, and looked to see if it would've spilled onto the floors of the other stalls. Lucky for me, there's a cement drainage drop inbetween the stalls, so it should be ok:dntknw:.

I'll be going out there tommorrow with my brother's Duramax and retrieve it.

Pics will be up too.

Yup, you are a right. I just wondered because you can't run a PCV and a breather, just one or the other. It will mess with your ECU. What MAF are you going to run? It looks like you have some 24lb blue injectors in there and you can't run the stock MAF without a tune with them.

I'm running a MAF from the doner Mustang. The wiring harness, injectors, MAF, computer, and fuel rails are from the same car.:icon_thumby:

The Ford 9 incher..............

Well, me and the bro went to the storage unit and picked up the rear end.

It took some muscle to get the drums off. I think these and the brake pads are from the factory in 1975. Worn way past the rivets and one of the shoes only had 1/16" of pad left. Good thing everything needs to be replaced anyway.

I guess that's what 33 years of of off-road driving and brake-locks do.:3gears:

But as I started to tear into it a little more, I found out that the axles weren't 31 spline like I thought they were, but they were the weaker 28 splines:annoyed::annoyed:. The brother reassured me that it's more than strong enough to handle the power, unless I go turbo or bottle.:dunno:

Also, the rear end is 3.56 gearing, and the speedo is set for 3.73 gearing. The launches will suffer a little and the speedometer will be off, but at least I'll have decent gas mileage.

Also, the fan came today.................:yahoo:

And the oil and radiator lines were run today also.

it's amazing what one can get done when work cuts you to 32 hour weeks AND have an Easter day in there too. 2 days down, 3 to go..............:icon_thumby: :icon_thumby: :icon_thumby:

Well, the wheel studs are pounded out, the third member removed, and I got a whiff of 33 year old diff fluid for the first time:bad: :bad: :bad: :bad:. Nastiest stuff I have ever smelt in my life. YUCK!!! :annoyed:

Since the Ford 9'' don't come with a drain plug, I decided to make one. I got this weld flange from work that I'm going to use. It's 3/8" pipe thread and it only sinks down an 1/8" so it there's no problem of it rubbing the ring gear.

I'm going to get a rebuild kit and ship the axles to a machine shop to get the stud holes filled and drilled for 5x4.5 wheels.

The throttle body from Blue Oval industries came yesterday and my first job was to fab an EGR block-off plate. I went one step ahead and, um, put my "stamp of authenticity" on it:D:D

My brother cut the throttle linkage off the 5.0 truck's intake and used that on the throttle body so that I don't have to get a cable from a mustang.

I'm about to have 7 days off of work here, so a lot more will be done in that time frame.:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

i have to say this is looking really great that 302 is georgous is it new or rebuilt?

Thank you!!:D:D

That is a rebuilt 1989 F-150 302(bored .040 over):3gears: that has taken over a year to accomplish. Would've been cheaper to buy a new one, but somehow it feels "right" when you refurbish an old one.

Has character and such:D:D
