Ok i dont want to hear "YA SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A FORD"
I was having a good day until my wife calls me saying that she is stuck at the gas station and the car wont turnover.Piss me off.So I hurry over to the gas station and measured the battery.12.69vdc and told her to start the car it went down to around 9vdc.So I pull out the jumper cables and try to jump the battery.NO GO. You could hear the starter click but not turn over the engine.I would see dash lights, headlights, radio, etc. So I called the local stealership to come and pick the car up.They call later on and say its the starter.Fine how much? The service rep says 800 bucks... plus tow..Now nothing pisses me off more than outright theft. I'm no mechanic. So could it be a battery or a bad starter?
BTW the car has only 55k.
So anyone know anything about the 3.5l Honda's

its the starter
i had a car do that with a new battery in it

you shoulda had it towed to your house.... i dont see how a starter can be an $800 job

Are you serious? $800!

Hard to believe anything is wrong with it. Battery seems good at that voltage. Could be the starter. Hard to believe a starter on anything new would go out so quickly. Probably not a ground if it's never had work done on it. Definately wouldn't let those bastards fix it. I would start by inspecting the cables for tightness, and then jerk the hell out of the cables while she turns the key, and then tapping the starter solenoid while she does the same. Could be a bad spot in the solenoid.

With the track record we've had with Honda's I would really be dubious about anything failing. I would swap in a battery out of something else for instance. We've got hundreds of thousands of miles in Honda's and I've never even had a bulb burn. A starter failing on a 55,000mile car--really hard to believe. I really wish I could look at it.

what year is it? under warranty?
Its an 2005 and no 3/36 warranty

I looked on line for a starter..125.00 for a remanned
I would but it looks like a total bitch. They cram so much shit in engine bay.
I told the service rep my wife is now afraid to drive this..I'll see if this ploy will work. Ok I'll put the crack pipe down now

probably cost so much because its so hard to get to. ask them if you have an aftermarket availible. how much of the 800 was labor, how much was the part?

Trust me I've owned 2 honda's and 2 acura's and 1 toyota.Heck I still have the original start/alt on the 97 camry w/205k

525 for the starter and the remainder is labor .I went through the same shit with Ford MC.They don't call them stealerships for nothing.

2 weeks ago I had an 08 Lexus IS350 come into my dealership with a pull to the right. Turns out the passenger side front brake caliper was seized with only 157 miles on the odometer. Sometimes they just get bad parts at the factory.

The hell with the stealership- have it towed out of there and fixed somewhere else... still cheaper with the second tow bill. Starters are usually pretty easy to swap out if you crawl underneath and take a looksee- lots of times more room from the bottom. Find a mechanically inclined friend and give him a case of beer to swap it out in the dealer's parking lot. You can make new friends at the dealer that way...

sometimes true, but not all the time. like alternators.... have you ever looked at one on a chevy 3.4L(monte carlo or sim), you have to take the axles out and everything. sometimes starters are similar, sometimes you need special tools.
