My credo
I need more sleep.
So about 2 weeks ago I hurt my leg running, I went to the doctor the first week and he told me that it was just my kneecap that had popped out and popped back in and wasn't sure, but wanted me to get and MRI to find out for sure. So I went and had a MRI done, went back to the doctor and it turns out my ACL instead of ripping, took a piece of bone off. So next monday I'm getting surgery, I'm a bit worried because I've never had surgery before. The worst part is it's going to ruin so many plans I have, and I've been going to school on a hurt leg to get good attendance for my exemptions, and it's all been for nothing. Well, wish me luck..

You will be ok..scaredy cat..lol. Make sure you tell the school about the surgery...they cannot discriminate against you, Bro. I am a disabled Vet and I retired from the Navy and I also retired from my job of 20 years with a power company. I still work about 8 days a month for them...it goes toward my retirement. I get a nice chunk of change when I turn 62 in one lump sum. The company even gave me my own disabled parking space. They have made sure that I am treated right. They know there are a few things I an not able to do (picking up heavy things for example).

Just make sure you let people know about your problem. Ask your doctor for a temp handicap placard. This way you won't have to walk too far until you heal up. One of my buddies went through this last year. He was in a wheelchair for about three months after the knee surgery. They also had to drill a hole thru his kneecap to speed up the healing. He can run again and do squats like there is no tomorrow.

Good luck, Bro!!!!

You can do it! Just DON"T do anything that you're NOT supposed to do after surgery.........no matter how GOOD you feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, the creepy part for me is that, I though my leg was swollen, well its filled with blood. I'll post some pictures after the surgery, just for entertainment lol.

Hope your surgery goes good man. Alot of fellas first real surgery is a wiener trim.:shok:

To be honest, I'm not really worried about the surgery itself, I'll be asleep for it, but afterwards is what I am. I have to keep my leg straight for 4 weeks. And I have to be back on crutches, ugh I hate those so bad.............. And I'm going to have to be crippled getting across the stage at graduation. Lol..

Well the sad part is I've been in the brace for awhile, and everyone asks me how I hurt my leg, and it just happened while I was running, didn't fall or anything, just running and pop.

Ull be ok man i had knee surgery(torn acl and muniscus)
was back on my feet after 2 months and running at 7 months just don't over do it
also start physical therapy asap and don't give up on it
good luck man!!

Thanks everyone :yahoo:

Sounds like your still young and hardy since you are still going to school. As already mentioned: let the school know what's happening, be sure the anesthesiologist (the person who knocks you out and wakes you up) knows your medical history and has a blood panel/profile to work with before he puts you under, don't rush your recovery...hope for a good looking physical therapist, know now that the first night at home after the surgery is going to be rough pain-wise, you will get real bored...I fought this with two RC vehicles (both Fords) which kept me entertained, ditch the prescribed pain pills as soon after the surgery as you can...you really don't have to take all they give you so don't risk getting dependent on them. This is stuff I wish I had known before my four procedures, starting about a decade ago. But I'm an old fart, pushin' 55, not a young healthy/hardy sprout like you. You'll do fine...don't stress too much.

What....asleep?? I had left knee surgery while in the Navy back in 1990. I was awake the whole time. They gave me a spinal block and man!! I could still feel it. The worst thing was when I saw the doctor right after my knee exploded. This a**hole twisted my knee and pushed out the blood that was filling up inside my knew. I looked at him and I said I think I am going to faint or throw up..I am felling queasy. He said 'they localized your knee cap right'? I said NO. The he laughed and said 'Wow. You are the first one I have done this to who has not passes out of screamed like a baby'!!! Man!!! I wanted to punch his face out!!!

Sounds like fun, but no there putting me to sleep, an anesthesiologist is doing it, just like when I got my wisdom teeth removed. An IV in my hand 5 seconds later and I'm out.
