So we went to the vet about 3 months ago because my dog was breaking out on her stomach. They said it looked like allergies. So we had to change her diet and bathe her in this special shampoo twice a week.

About a week and a half ago a bump on her face split open and since has been getting larger and pussing/bleeding. We took her to the vet today and they said she had hereditary mange...

The good news is she cant spread it to other dogs or people she come in contact with.

The bad news is it is more expensive to get rid of than normal mange. It takes 12 weeks to treat. We have to dip her once every 2 weeks. The worst part is we have to get her spayed because there is a chance she can spread it to her pups.

I really wanted to let her have one litter because Akitas are so rare around here. But I couldnt sell someone a dog knowing that it could develope this. At least she will be back to her healthy beautiful self in a few months.

What sucks most is No billit grille for 12 weeks...I barely have enough money left after her damn vet visit to buy the wood for my system.

Oh and she is 6.5months old and weighs 52lbs :D:

Awww what a shame... I would contact the breeders if I were you and let them know what they are spreading...

Yeah. I already told them about that happened. The pregnancy was a half way accident. The vet said it was likely that the parent that had the gene never showed signs. The female is already spayed. She was spayed after the first litter. They were cool about it.

I'm not going to ask for my money back or anything because they were good people. It sucks I have to drop the money, but even after the treatment, I would be paying less than akita's usually go for. She is a great dog, couldnt have asked for a more loving, more protective dog.

The vet said that stress is usually the cause of the breakout. So when she had an allergic reaction to her food, she probably triggered it. Thats the best I can think of. I'm just glad we caught it before it was too bad and she will get better.
