I was watching Xtreme 4x4 today (repeat) and they showed a 13-year old girl rock crawling a Suzuki Samurai in competition. My 12-year old daughter likes offroading and wants to take up rock crawling.

Funny how she's wanted a 4-wheeler and I just figure I can't afford it right now, but the idea of buying an old Samurai get's more consideration. :dunno:

i think it would be nice to see more women in the 4x4 scene, especially more women like jesse, from extreme 4x4. lol. i think ull figure out something, buy here one of those little japanese abc cars and mod it for her, to get her started or something, thats how i started when i was 13

Thats because you can have just as much fun in it as she can. That and you can buy and build a sami for the same or less as a good ATV.

I think that it is a terrific idea. I think all of us here realize the benefits of a child who grows up working on things and knowing the value of a dollar. And you cant find too many vehicles that are cheaper up front than a Sammy. Although I have never seen a sammy with a TTB in it. Hence tear down TRS-1 and swap the drivetrain into the Sammy. It would be a pain but would be freakin awesome!

No, it wouldnt. That would be an abomination. I would be forced to fly out there and dismantle it with a chevy wrench.

My daughter has showed an interest in 4x4's for a long time. She likes it more than I do.

She told me last week she wanted a Jeep Cherokee.

I'm not going to push her towards any RBV. I like the Sammy for cost and light weight. I think it would be a good starter vehicle.

My daughter is at the age where I have to make sure I get my time with her because she's always with her friends. I think her getting in to off-roading would be a good way to get quality time with her.

I take it you don't like Cherokee's?

I hear you. My oldest is 16 and she likes to come with me in the mud. Not sure if she'd drive 4x4 but has expressed an interest in driving claimer cars at the oval track.

No, not really. Expensive, dana 35 rear is a POS, front D30 is ok 95-up but no hubs, non servicable unit bearings, hard to work on, unibody, stock bumpers are horribly weak, slip yoke rear driveshaft. My friend has a 95 and paid 5 1/2 times what I paid for my rig and has more money in it than I do and my rig spanks his. Changing a water pump takes nearly 6 hours, one of his engine mounts failed tilting the engine to the side which also cracked his manifold/header, front pinion leaks, rear wheel cylinder fell apart, ect. Just my $0.02...
