My Dana 30 SAS

Its not the same type of wobble though. Death wobble hits a resonate frequency and doesn't stop until you slow way down.lol

True. But it does help contribute to it.

Its a combination of everything being loose and bad geometry will make it 100 times worst...,

Its done...kinda, lol

So here are the final pics of my build. She is as I said, "drivable" but does have some issues.

Once I got all my parts I put all my nuts in one basket and finished it up. Dropped down my transmission cross-member and plated it up a bit where I cut some out to clear my long arms.

Beefed her up wit some 1/8"!:icon_welder:

Got all my parts from Borgeson and put my steering shaft together. I welded my stock steering shaft end to the new universal, fit just right.

Also added in some drop brackets for my brake lines so I wouldn't kink anything when I'm all flexed out.

Now on to my trac-bar. Simply just zip-tied it up there to get an idea where it needed to go. Figure my mounts off that seemed to be a logical idea.

Made up a axle side mount because the stock one was cut out to clear my steering links. So I used some left over 3/16" plate I had.

Fit that up and was nice an snug fit, now was time to make up the frame side mount. This needed to be real strong so I used 1/4" on this mount. The bracket that came with the bar wouldn't fit so I used the same shape from that one when I made my own.

I double check to see if my steering box and pitman arm were going to clear before I burned it all in.

Yep, so I went to town on that and boxed in the frame side and attached the axle side mount to the axle with some 1/4".

Ran into an issue with the trac-bar though, it is too long at its shortest length. So I took out the adjuster nut and was able to make it work for now. Need to invest in a shorter trac-bar that I can adjust out to fit my mounts. I bought one for 6.5-8" of lift due tot that is what I am running for coils plus the stock insulater. So I need to fix that later. But I buttoned the rest up, tightened down all my bolts and rod ends and drove her out of the garage.

Glad to see it out of the garage finally. Not to bad for two weeks of work I don't think. Was a 2wd now 4wd, not too shabby!:headbang:

For laughs I parked it next to my mom's cobalt...lol

After I drove it down the road and it had its wobble issues I did a alignment, got it 1/16" out which is spec so it will do, and centered my steering wheel too. Was way to the right at first. Backed it back in the garage and painted it up!

Just need to work the bugs out and it will be a great truck. Also need to pull the axle back a little bit, after I set it down on its weight a friend of mine, (Destroyer) notice the axle was ahead of my coils a bit.

Bad pic of it but you can kind see it. So I'm going to jack her up and turn my arms in a few turns to pull it back just enough to center it up a bit. But other than that it came out nice. Can't wait to get out on the trails though!:3gears:

Wondering Issue

So i had another friend of mine, HolyFord86 take a look at my issue with my truck wondering when i drive it, and he thinks it is my steering shaft....let me explain. I installed a brand new steering shaft with brand new universals so it isn't component related. So after we took a drive he had me pop the hood and watch me steer, and noticed when I steer the shaft had a lot of play and twisted side to side when I would turn the wheel. On my stock steering column behind the fire wall there is like a ball and socket joint and that free play in the steering my be related to my wonder. So when I steer I am taking the slack out of the shaft and not actually steering, and when I counter steer my drift it is way too much due to the play.

So today I went and ordered a 1" heim to support my steering shaft from the column to the box so it can not move around or twist. Shall see how it goes, will be back with results of this fix.:dunno:

Look awesome. That thing looks tall!

Your wandering issue is due to the track bar and drag link being different lengths and at different angles.

The joints on your radius arms look like they're adjusted out too far as well.

What's with the wobbled out hole on the track bar mount on the axle? You also need to gusset the piss out of that mount or it WILL rip off.

Another thing I noticed is that you will need longer shocks. Those 12" travel shocks will not cut it.

Other then the stuff pointed out above that can and will cause issues...

She looks great and finally how a ranger should have been from the factory.

Thanks for the advice Brinker88, going to start first with the adjustable stuff. Going to adjust my caster and my alignment to see if that improves my issues. I think will help out. I plan on running a different trac-bar soon because the one I have was too long from the get go but just wanted to get it in there and see how everything worked out.

Plan on adjusting my arms and such tomm.: night so, will be back to let you know how things went.dunno:

No problem. Another thing I noticed was your coil buckets aren't plated where you cut the shock mount off. They need to be or they will collapse.

Looking back through the pictures, I noticed where you mounted the trackbar on the axle. It needs to be higher to make it and the dranglink parallel.
I've had three steering setups and all three was a learning experience. Finally got it to zero bumpsteer with both my trackbar and draglink are the same length and parallel.

Don't be afraid to redo the frame mount so that the track bar actually pokes past the outside of the frame rail.

Yea I plan on beefing up everything before she goes off road. Just trying to get the truck to drive down the road straight and safe.

Tonight I did just that. I adjusted my caster, by moving my upper control arms in 1 1/4"s. My coils are much straighter now and my truck doesn't wonder down the road. Haven't put many miles on it yet, plan on it tomorrow. But it is much much better. Centered up my steering wheel too and pulled my alignment in an 1/8" in toe.

Plan on driving it a bit to break in my gears and plate up the trac bar mounts a bit so she will hold up off road.

Be back to let you guys know how she handled.

** Decided to see how she flexed the other day so I jumped up on a dirt pile at a buddy's house, awesome**

She's got some good flex going on there.
