Build Day 8

On today's agenda was shock towers, bump stops, and pinion angle; got brake lines done too!:headbang:

Since I had my truck sitting as low as it ever would again it would be a good time to make bump stops so I don't destroy anything in the future. I measured from the top of my coil buckets to the base on the axle coil mounts and made my bump stop tubes that long plus added the poly bump stop.

I had some left over DOM and used that, a bit extreme some may say but, it will never break.

I will mount them when I install my new coils. Ordered those last night along with a Bomb Proof Trac-Bar and mount from Jester Off-Road.

As one of you said about suspension geometry; this trac-bar will allow me to keep both my steering link and trac-bar parallel to help in handling. Also I do plan on adding extra re-enforcement to the frame by adding a cross-member in-front of the engine utilizing my old sway bar mounts so that it is removable in-case I have to work on the front of the motor while its in the truck.

Shock towers were also done at this time do to it being so low, I measured my shocks fully compressed and added 2"s for safety of damaging them and set my towers at that measurement from the mount of the axle up.

HolyFord86 stopped in and gave me a hand in setting my pinion angle by adjusting my long arms I got from Iron Man Fab. Set Caster at about 5 and some change and pinion angle looks good too.

Doing some odds and ends tomorrow, plating the frame for the steering box and waiting for parts too. Will be back with updates.

The IronMan arms have changed some since I got mine.

I like how our builds are almost identical. Keep it going

I'm not gunna lie... This is turning out pretty sweet!

I'm secretly stealing ideas for when I D30 SAS my DD/ family ride.

***as for those who know how anti-D30 I am, the other rides are still D44 D60 and dropped TIB, why not have all the axles...? Besides that TTB junk...

Yea having all that adjustment right there when you need it is nice. At the moment I am waiting for parts to finish it all up. Plated the rest of my frame today and tightened down my arms.

I know people say why build a Dana 30, well everyone thinks you need this huge axle to run 35's and play balls to the wall; well if you have been following this you will see how this D30 will be right at the side of a D44 all day with no issues.......I hope:D.

We should assemble a d30 only wheeling trip on here, haha. Though I'm way off.

Yeah, so if we do break down we can attack the weak guy at the end of the pack and use his truck for parts...haha:thefinger:.

You don't want my d30 parts.

haha, glad to see we all have a vote of confidence in our trucks:icon_rofl:. Suck waiting for parts, ordered my steering shaft stuff today and once I get my box mounted I have to stop and get my p/s hose made up. Pretty sure i need a #6 JIC fitting to mate it to the fittings on my yoda box I got with the fittings I bought?:dunno: Input?

it's not that i dont have confidence in my D30, it's that i know it's gonna break lol. i plan on having an extra set of shafts to keep in my b2 at all times. with my luck, i'll be leaving a bojangles parking lot and one will explode. probably need a spare unit bearing too
