My 91 Ranger the stRanger

i have to say in short term minimalist day trips the co2 is ok.

its all on intended use like most things we do.

to keep everything pristine and leak free as far as couplers and lines and air tools go...not to mention major use of air tools, there is no way i would want only a powertank. i would like both of course ideally as the pt can remotely be used and in some trail disaster situations or a situation where your engine is down, the pt really shines.

but in my experience, it is severely limited for the repairs i have done over the years. you sure as hell wouldnt roof or frame a house with one.

some are switch the others you just move the wire over. it will be 6 or 8....follow the tracer back

This is the back of the cluster, there is no switch on the tach, where would I move the wire that says 8cyl? I dont mean to thread jack you

follow the tracer back and look at the wires on the plug. iirc you move the wire to the 8 cyl side and it runs the next step. you switch them or move one over. dont remember it. what are the wires there going to?

there were differences between the mech and electric speedo units, i just dont remember the details. yours has dual overlay for the connector as well.

The wires go into the dash harness,i assume to the firewall. There is a black wire with yellow stripe in the 8 plug, would this work if I cut the wires on the plug and ran new ones to the coil ,ground, and ignition? Like you would an aftermarket tach

i tried to find anything from rrorc, but its not anywhere. i had detail there and a shit ton on some old computers in which i dont have access to..

you remove or move the ground on the 8 cyl side, or maybe it was trade left to right. i just dont remember it....for some reason i have memory of the ground being there is for 6cyl setting and removed makes it v8, but i dont remember if i only remove it or move it over... i have done it several times on various applications. i have evtm's somewhere but not handy.

when i was working on conversions regularly i never thought certain things would fall out of my brain but when i am working directly on a project its easier regardless with it in my hands.

Agreed! I forget the simplest things when I dont do them for awhile. Thsnks gor your help,i think this should be in the tech library, surely im not the only one trying this

Back from the dead. Rebuilt the tranny, new TC. Drove it to work the other night. My to-do list is still pretty long.

Heater core (this blew the other night and leaks now)
Dyno tune (its burning a lot of gas about 6 mpg)
front drive shaft

yeah....it will eat fuel....and make heat like your not used to.

takes a long time to get tired of feeding them due to the smile the noise pedel puts on your face.

tuning is paramount. exhaust tuning as well.

but i would go to an aod before a c4....fawking c4's were too easy for me to murder and sucked at triple digit speeds.

I love yhe aod in mine.....for 5minutes. But the tv cable has to be dialed in correctly or itll toast itself.also for an aod on a 351 you have to get a fkywheel and starter for an 89/90 crown vic with the 351/aod combo. I found this out by chewing up my front pump

with a f52 converter?

theres several combinations for that. the safe route is the parts for the police package.

theres a 24 oz and 28 oz version if i remember right.. i have had no issues with the roller 351 stuff post 95 but for whatever reason certain e vans did have the contact issue. i caught it on install but if a guy didnt it would suk.

What computer and harness are you using ?
I have seen people mix up using a batch fire ecm with a harness that came off a ESFI vehicle and vise versa..

When I swapped{in a efi 5.0 into my old bronco2 I used a harness from a non HO 5.0 87 t-bird that was batch fire{only 2 wires firing half the injectors} and converted to ESFI {8 firing injectors} to work with a 90 Lincoln LSC speed density ESFI 5.0 HO ecm.

With a c4,35" tires and 3.73 gears I was getting 18mpg on the highway and about 14-15 around town. No joke.

If timing, fuel pressure, tps setting and oxygen sensors are good I really dont see the need for a "dyno tune".

you did that with a 351? sefi vs mfi

No mine was a 5.0

fairly stock i have seen 18 mpg in 4x4 trucks with a properly geared 3 speed c4, but when ride height goes over a certain limit your screwed.

an ext cab with 456 gears, 35 in tires and aod will net much better drivability then a c4 373 35 in tire combo. but not necessarily better mpg on steady cruise.

his combination demands dyno tuning to maximize drivability and economy.

no way around that.

in your particular situation, you may have had it nailed, or tuning may have netted a few more mpg at steady hi-way cruise. i have never seen tuning not net gains in one area or another, but i have seen it where the gains were not justifiable against the cost of the tuning. i know if i was getting 18 mpg with 35 in tires at 65-70 mph i sure as fawk would not change a thing and be glad i got that damn lucky.

it depends specifically on the combinations.

your 18 mpg setup in your particular truck transplanted into my truck with no alterations, i would gauranatee would not exceed 12 mpg at 70 mph in my truck as it sits. and would be a slug compared to my previous 302. at least if an un modded mark eec could run it i know you would be at least 75 hp short of my old sbf.

its the little things
