My 91 Ranger the stRanger

Thanks a lot for the compliments guys, its awesome when everything comes together and hard work and patience pays off.

To update, my bumper build is put on hold :( The neighbors tattled to the homeowners I rent from, whom told the property manager. Basically I have been forbidden to weld, torch or grind on the property for fear of burning the house down... I guess I shouldn't cook anymore either.

I bought a smittybuilt xrc8 and the 8274 is up for sale. Since my landlord is being gay and I don't like having roommates, I am waiting for my application to get approved on a new house. It has a 2 car detached garage/shop, so I am pretty stoked about it.

Good luck with the house, bummer about your neighbors.
Lets see some pics of your new transmission crossmember and doubler setup.
Really nice work so far, I sure do love 2nd gen Rangers.

Well the good news is I got the house! I will be busy the next couple days moving and getting everything setup again. The best thing is I will be all by myself with no roommates, and no neighbors. I made the roommate mistake this time, never again!

Crawlin I ill try and snap a pic in the next couple days of the tranny mount. Im not to happy with it, I might re work it this winter. I want to incorporate some bushing into it, and make the driver side taller for more drive shaft clearance (at stuff right now I have about 1/4'' clearance between the drive shaft and cross member.) I am still thinking how I want to do the doubler support. On the passenger side the exhaust is placed perfectly to block the inside of the framerail, and I dont really want to go under it. I have been thinking of ways to build a skid plate for the transfer cases and build a mount on that to support the rear case

And here are a couple more pics from the last weekend, none of the video turned out to great, most of it was to close up

Congrats. Looks like a nice clean place with plenty of room.
I will have my new and improved doubler set up done soon as well.
You did 2 manual cases right?

No the crawl box is a manual 1350 and the rear is a electric 1354. I used the stock manual linkage on the crawl box.

Check the last few pages of my build where I did my doubler setup. My mount is stupid simple and keeps stress off the extension housing. Hangs kinda low, but it works for me so far.

Was looking through your thread and was curious on how the doubler is holding up. I keep reading bout the shaft breaking and wanna get real world info.

Ive only heard of one of Duffy's shafts breaking, and that was on a one ton rig with 42s. As long as you engage the cases correctly you should not have problems with the shaft. The stub shafts that break are those that are a homebrew two piece design.

I only have one wheeling trip and about 500 miles on my doubler. I am not worried at all about the shaft breaking. That is my least worry and the best part of the kit. All the machining is top notch work. The only part of the kit I don't like, or trust is the Allen screws that hold the 2 cases together. And it's just a matter if time before I start going through the motor mounts

I just read every page of this build! Love the truck.

The radius arms you used you said were Duffs for a 78-79 full size correct? The frame brackets for those worked on the Ranger frame? Im doing a FW d44 swap rite now also and Im at the point of needing to figure out what to do about arms.

Yes they are 78-79 bronco duff arms. Very heavy duty stuff! The frame brackets work great on a ranger frame, they are really beefy with an outside and inside bracket for each radius arm mount. Also you get new cast head units. They are expensive, but definitely worth it IMO.

Is the bend in the arms needed for tire clearance or would the arms have been fine if they were straight?

Yeah 750.00 aint cheap! lol

Great looking build. Duff arms are super tuff!!! I have had several sets.
