My 91 Ranger the stRanger

23 gallon B2 tank FTW!!

Fuel cell pickup install:

Ok my fuel cell pickups showed up today so I opened up the cell and did some work. I have a jaz 22 gal remote fill fuel cell. Stock it comes with a pickup, vent and fill hole. The pickup line is just some tube within the cell routed to a corner from the factory. The 2 problems is
1- an efi vehicle need a return line
2-when operating at extreme angles (offroad) the fuel will slosh away from the pickup line and starve the fuel supply)

To remedy these problems, I first opened the tank, then drilled a hole next to the pickup line.

Next I installed a -8 bulkhead fitting with 2 nylon washers on each side to seal it

Return line fitting problem solved. Next I vacuumed out the cell to clear any drill debris.

To solve the pickup issue, I contacted liquid iron industries to get a walbro pickup kit for my tank. The kit comes with 4 walbro pickups and all fittings & tube to connect them. The walbro pickups are pretty neat, with a prescreen micro mesh filter, and a built in valve so if the fuel sloshes away from the pickup, it will get sucked closed and not allow fuel starvation.

With one pickup at each corner, it is impossible to starve the fuel at angles unless completely empty.
I installed it, then button the cell back up, and its ready for install. There is a good write up in the pirate4x4.com tech section for information fuel cells, vent lines etc.

Dam thats slick!

Yeah it is a pretty slick setup, hopefully everything works as advertised. I am tempted to yank the bed this weekend and put the fuel cell in but I know I can't finish the whole tube/flat bed in a weekend. I just wont have much time for about a month after this weekend to do much and driving around in a truck with no bed at all would be kinda dumb for that long. We will see...

You could just put the fuel cell in you bed and just drill holes in the bed to get the fuel lines through. That way you can use that sick thing and still have your bed on. :icon_thumby:

Glad your putting those in your tank. But it's nice to do stuff once and be done with it. I need to get those they aren't cheap I know. Nice job.

Yeah I wouldn't benefit from the tank swap unless I did the tube bed really, and I hate doing things twice or more.

I wanted to get an in tank pump setup like we talked about before, but I just couldn't find one that would work the way I want so I am going to try this setup and hope for the best

Not much of an update, but I got some sliders made up. I found some sliders for a toyota extended cab that fit. They are 80'' long. If i were to buy the materials, consumables, labor time etc. these were cheaper by about $100 and saved another steel yard run. I just need to weld them on now.

And I kept getting waved at by jeeps, and they would go out of their way to park by me, so I got this just for fun.

i love the sticker!

Nice sliders!! Are those Trail-gears built sliders?

No they are 4x4 innovations sliders. Cheaper than the trail gear ones.

do you have any shots like the last one that shows how far out the rear tire sits from the bed side? this thing is looking better and better all the time.

Ill take a pic tomorrow from the rear
