My 91 ext cab build thread

lol i saw that explorer on CL a few times. was consideirng it for a 4l swap in my ranger

She's got the notorious valvetrain tick. It's pretty bad lol. But its only got to last me about a month, or probably shorter so not so bad. Might just part it out after and buy one in better shape. I want my next project to be a first gen Explorer. This one's just a little too rough around the edges for my liking lol

yeah it looked pretty uncared for - being a mechanic i cry everytime i work on a explorer or ranger, they are all in such bad shape. i dont think ill ever find a 4l im happy enough with without rebuilding it.
Thats how it starts. I got a couple parts trucks sitting around from the same thing.

Yeah regular maintenance as well as owner intelligence is key lol

correct me if im wrong but, for a flywheel, i need a 157 tooth 28oz right?...

Parts!

Got some more parts for the Forest Ranger!

Water pump. T-stat housing. Fuel pressure reg. Clutch master. and i pick up the oil filter adapter tomorrow.

I actually have to return the fuel pressure regulator tomorrow because I got the wrong one. They gave me the holley 12-803, which is a non-return style. I need the 12-803BP, which is the bypass/return style. Wondered why it was so cheap... lol.

Wow. Must be cheap prices at your junk yard eh. (here is our junkyard price list http://www.pickapart.ca/price-list/ ) I'm goin efi next year when i build the 408w. That was the plan in the first place, but that got put on the back burner for now because i want to build it right, but that takes money and time for how i want to build it. And also I love the classic carb engines. Its not always about what makes the most sense for me. Its about what i like, and a 4brl holley sittin atop a ford v8, is a beautiful thing. The efi is comin though.

The swap has been put on hold because the place i was going to do the swap is no longer available to me. so the Outpost Explorer build will be the main focus for a while because i need it reliable as my dd.

finished up the rad support brackets and got a plug wire set

So... I think I'm gonna go with a c6 trans now after much thought...

looks like a fun project. I just got done putting that exact body lift in except I went 3 inch lift, the 4 cab bolts fought me the whole way so I brought out the half inch breaker bar and a chunk of pipe.. good luck with your install
