My 91 Exploder

Wow, good carnage! I would think the joint would fail before the shaft, especially like that!

The u joint problem has always been the caps getting thrown out never actually broke one per say. I fixed that by tack welding the caps in place. Cap didnt come out but I guess it just found the next weak link. lol

So here was the project for today in between rain showers we had all day.

Optima yellow top.

Got it for a pretty good deal I think. It ended up being $167 out the door. Found a discount code for Advances website for $50 off $200 or more so that helped a ton. Paid for it online with the discount and picked it up in the store about and hour later.

Got it all swapped in and ran new power wires to the alternator and everything. Its a lot cleaner now. Should have seen the mess of wires before. Dont have any good before pics.

Was hoping to get the old rusty rear axle, bearing, and seal changed out today but didnt work out like I had hoped. Supposed to go 4wheelin in tomorrow so I got to get up early and get it all changed up. Going to take it a little easier on it until I get the sas from now on so it will quit breaking stuff. Stay tuned more more pics tomorrow.

Havent had any updates really. Just been driving and wheeling it. Only thing I have done to it recently is changed the air filter, got a spare wheel/tire, and new winch motor since the other quit. BIG changes coming within the next few months.

Picked this up today. Got it all for $130.

Aldo my D.D. Machine doubler kit should be here any day now.

Stay tuned for updates and more wheeling pics. Going wheeling all weekend this coming weekend.

Hmmm. Wonder what this could be?

Here is a better look.

Really nice stuff. Nice machine work. Hope it works as good as it looks. Probably going to just wait and install it when I do the d44 and 9" swap since driveshafts are going to have to be cut anyway.

I see chromo shafts in your future.

We shall see. Im probably just going to be sticking with the 35's now. Was really want to do a d60 radius arms setup instead of the 44 but couldnt find one I could afford. There made of gold around here.

If you're popping 35 shafts then you will the 44s too. You can get a good set of shafts cheap if you shop around. I've got a 60 and 14b on standby if I decide to go that route. So far I haven't broken a 44 chromo shaft yet but I know it's coming. Good thing is a replacement is free. With that doubler you'll be putting more torque to the axles. Be a good idea to spring for 9" shafts too.

Who's doubler kit? How much did you give for it? I am wanting one, just deciding if I wanna build it or buy it.

Its a D.D. Machine kit. It was $499. The biggest cost of it is the stub shaft. Its 1 piece heat treated chromoly. Not a pieced together welded one like most diy kits are that break.

I would rather pay a little more and know it will work and work right since this is my daily driver and all the hard work is already done.

what junkyard do you go to? none of the ones around raleigh have anything worth a shit - and if they do it's way over priced

Pull-A-Part in Charlotte. There is another one in Winston-Salem which will probably be closer for you.

yeah, i've heard of pull-a-part, been meaning to check it out but i dont have any time

any chance you wanna sell your old 8.8/d35 gears when you go 9/44?
