My 2jzgte is here

holy shiznit i think i just nutted...love tuner car motors and the motor you picked is by far one of the more awesome motors out there. as for the ls1 swap mentioned earlier yeah its prob cheaper and more powerful but its the classic v8 swap, this is dif and def interesting, plus you just cant beat the way a blown i4 sounds. granted nothing against the v8 rumble but when your side by side w/ a v8 and they wanna go and then they hear the blowoffs its an awesome rivalry.

i4? :icon_confused:

this is a wicked swap, i can see big fun with it:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

Lets make it simple,it's never bean done to a ranger also for my power needs with just upping the boost it will make more rwhp than the stock ls1 and i just love this engine. In the carribean we can import what ever engine there is available.

i never seen a reason not to do this engine. i dont know if its ever been done before though, maybe it has.

700 pounds isnt shit for these trucks either. i for one prefer v8 sound, but would not pass up a good deal on something awesome like these.

there are a shit ton of mustang/camaro guys that give big respect to these things and for good reason.

Pros of the 2JZGTE

I kinda wanna say something to li7in6 who has 20 posts...

The 2JZ is heavier than an LSx motor cuz the block is cast iron and not aluminum like the LS. The OP picked up the 2JZ from an Aristo, hence the green spark plug valley cover (at least I think it's green) and that it's a front sump oil pan. And we all know why the JDM motors got less power than USDM motors due to the late '80's "Gentleman's Agreement" to not exceed 280 hp.

$6K+ for a 2JZ/tranny combo is cuz chances are, it's a USDM motor set with the USDM Getrag V160 tranny. No shit the motor's longer; it's a STRAIGHT 6 and not a V8, dumbass. It's not that tall if both motors can fit in a 350Z, 240SX, and an RX-7.

He can run the manual R154 tranny from the MK3 Supra and still handle 700HP for ~$400 and not have to worry about shelling out $3K for the V160. The OP probably got that motor set for $1700; much cheaper than the $4k LS1/T-56 motor set that li7in6 is talking about. With the $2300 difference, the OP can put out just as much or more power than the LS1 can by replacing the JDM parts with USDM parts (like replacing the turbo and ceramic parts), and allowing the car to breath better with a better intake, intercooler set-up, and a 3" exhaust from downpipe to muffler.

The USDM motors got 320hp to the crank in stock form, but some have dynoed more than that. With the basic upgrades, there have been results of up to 450hp depending on condition of said motor at the time. I think the OP knows exactly what he's doing and I give him props for it. Makes me wanna get a Tacoma and do the same.

Good luck, 2jzRanger.

AgPete

Disclaimer: For the record, I am not dismissing the LSx or V8 options. Very strong, excellent motors. I love them just as much. My DD is a '92 5.0L Fox.

Mind coming down off that high horse for a second?

Stating the obvious does not make what i said untrue.

And we all know why the JDM motors got less power than USDM motors due to the late '80's "Gentleman's Agreement" to not exceed 280 hp.
once again stating the obvious about something I already went over.

No shit the motor's longer; it's a STRAIGHT 6 and not a V8, dumbass.
I'm a dumbass because I KNOW strait sixes are longer/taller than a pushrod V8?

It's not that tall if both motors can fit in a 350Z, 240SX, and an RX-7.
I see you're using the word 'fit' very loosely here. Not sure about the 350z but the 2jz does not 'fit' in either the 240sx nor the RX-7(FD, 3rd gen) without moving the steering rack, creating bump steer. Even after moving the steering rack, the engine is so tall in the FD that it requires a relief to be cut, or a custom hood. this is in addition to jamming the rear two cylinders down the trans tunnel. The LS1 by comparison can be made to fit with an angled TB adapter and clearancig the oil pan, retaining steering rack placement and keeping the car bump steer free.

Pure speculation here. You don't know how much he got his motor for, nor do you know what tranny he is using. Actually from the looks of it, he's using the auto. You can get a LS1/4l60e for cheaper than a LS1/T56 as well.

The USDM motors got 320hp to the crank in stock form, but some have dynoed more than that. With the basic upgrades, there have been results of up to 450hp depending on condition of said motor at the time. I think the OP knows exactly what he's doing and I give him props for it. You act as tho I have no experience with supra's. I know a BPU supra (with US turbo's) can make well over 400hp and a BPU+ can see over 500hp pretty easily. I'm not arguing modified motors here as he said he was going to keep it pretty tame.

If you want to go there, the LS1 can keep up till about 500hp on a horsepower per dollar scale. Arguably even after that due to the amount of work and costs involved with making a high power 2jz. Shit for the costs of some of the manifolds, turbo's and sheet metal intakes for those motors, you can build a mean ass LS2. and the LS will make more torque and not have the lag that supra's experience with big turbo's over 600hp. Beyond 1000-1100hp, LS motors are untouchable by the 2jz, but obviously that's out of the realm of reality of this swap.

Try not to come off as a snobby asshat. Just because I have 20 posts on a ranger forum doesn't mean i have no experience with performance cars and motors...:icon_thumby:

Guy's please lets stay on topic. This engine came from an aristo with auto transm it came with ecu harness sensor alternator starter everything for the swap and it cost me $1700.Stock crank HP for this jdm engine is 280hp with minnor upgrades it will reach 400 rear wheel hp with the stock tt's.On stock internals these engine can with stand 700+rwhp they have taken them up to 900rwhp with good tunning and of course the necessary upgrades. If you want power or if you want seriouse power you've got to pay what ever engine your are using.

so the motor came out of an aristo? I drove one of them yesterday, it's heavy but really moves ( don't know how far from stock it was ). Then shortly after I drove a ranger, it only felt about half the weight. This thing is really going to move, stopping might be another challenge. chute maybe?

amazing build dude , this will be the first of its kind , and probably be the words fastest ranger , definantly liking it

reminds me of a story that was in hotrod i think , of a guy putting a 2jz into a 69 camaro

i highly doubt worlds fastest rangers.....but one of the fastest street driven rangers yes.....check out the build section some time buddy and look at big block ranger LOL that thing is artarted

Before you bolt everything together you might want to check the end play on the crankshaft, It's a weak point on these motors.

now this is definantly a sleeper. i wanna see videos of ricers getting beat one by one by the strange little engined ranger that could..

li7in6, you have a new message in your PM Inbox. Apologies...

2JzRanger, what's the progress?

Hey guy's,i'm waiting on the drive shaft to arrive maybe next week.i had to go with the aristo shaft because of this trans uses a 3 claw bolt on yoke. Also this shaft is 2 piece so will have to fab a bracket for the center bearing and remove the rear yoke so we can fit and weld the ranger rear yoke so it can be bolted on the diff.

Some pic's of fitting and installing the radiator+fan+intercooler.I had to notch the frame to relocate the radiator a little forward to clear the right side water hose, and now we have to cut and flip the water outlet pipe from the engine so it can be connected to the radiator.
