Wanna no how to make a dana 28 lock out hub work for a dana 35 axle. its pretty easy just change the center gear to a 35 gear and it will go rite on. did on my 35. just change the guts and bingo. and if u want the hubs to be fully lock all the time take out the spring and replace it with a washer that fits the same diameter. NOTE: it cannot be any smaller. now my 35 is dam near bullet proof, hehe:yahoo:

I take it this is for automatic hubs?

Manual hubs are very different beasts. And there is little reason to make manual hubs locked all the time (just don't unlock them....).

no this is for manuals will never EVER go near auto locks again to save my life:fie:

not nessaserily there the same except the inside splines that grabs the axle end. d28 is slightly smaller then the 35

Where would one get the D35 gear to put into the D28 hub?

you can get the guts out of any d35 hub the is junk or an auto lock. at most junkyards there 5 dollars for the spline itself. 20 for a whole hub

The inner part from a D35 auto hub will fit inside of a D28 manual hub and work?

Hmm... *goes out to garage to try it.*

Nope. Won't even work with a D35 manual hub. But the D35 manual hub drive section does in fact work with the remainder of a D28 manual hub.

Yeah, I kindof figured as much... Seems there had to be a reason why everybody wasn't simply taking gears out of auto hubs to put into D28 hubs because the D35 manual hubs are a f'in' PITA to find in a junkyard

Cool you took the time to verify that though

So did we learn anything useful here? If we bust a D35 body and have an extra D28 body we can swap the D35 guts in?

But what about the strength of the D28 body? If you are already busting D35's (for some people this might be a fluke that they broke a hub in the first place) will the D28 be more or less likely to break?

hick

this is really just a in the field fix to sum. and the only way the housing shuld break is a malfunction inside the hub. cuz i have been running this for about 2 months and its awesome
